We had a thread similiar to this a long time ago in the Firearms Forum, I remember reading about stuff like the 1969 Soccer War (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/elsalvador.htm Helped me on a spanish project too).

Here's another odd war:

1914: A serbian terrorist assassinates Arch-Duke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. 13 Million people die, and the reprocussions of that war lead to the bloodiest conflict in human history.

Except that its far more complicated than that. Yes, it might have been the inciting factor, but Austro-Hungarian policies in Serbia, and the response to the assissination (which starts off the chain of events that lead to the first world war) probably were more to blame.

How about the Toyota Wars between Chad and Libya in the late '80s?

I was trying to get at the point that there was more than just a soccer game that started that war. Just as it took more than Gavrilo Princep to start the first world war.

I agree, there were a lot more factors such as the economic situation of both countries, particarlly El Salvador. I was just stating that it was an odd, little known war, at least, from my prospective, I had never heard about it until I read it on the FA forums.

Yeah, if you expected me to understand that was what you were getting at, man, you are assuming quite a bit.
