View Full Version : TTP2's Farewell is here!

Tracy's Trailer Park is shutting down on August 31. The server that tried to carry on the Tradition of TDS after it's demise, is coming to an end. Sometime before then [PoP] and the friends of TTP will have an all night blow out FA extravaganza to send the old girl out with style.
If Interested, check the ]PoP] forums at www.clanpop.org for details.
Stop by and say goodbye one last time.

The philosophy was trying to make it fun for everyone, worked well.
And in regards to those whose memories have faded, we never banned because a player was good. If you look back at all the unban threads it was always for .....
a. Homophobic language... or
b. entering spawn on Iwo..
Two things a lot of you have had trouble with over the years.
We tried to make it a place where everyone would have a good time. Its popularity over the years attest that it worked. Most banned players were given second and third chances and only a precious few were ever given the Perma-ban status.
I will miss it. Although I have not played any FA in almost a year, it was home for me for years.

Bald_Eagle, Usva was banned because someone said that he thinks he cheats or something like that, but had no proof what-so-ever. But proceeded to ban him anyway. Usva i'm quite sure never broke the rules as i remember the discussion when it happened on someone saying that he's allways acted fine or something of the sort. I'm not sure was it on the PoP forums or FA. You can try search your forums for it. But he was the exception that strengthens the rule perhaps then. :P

This seems as something all but too predictable to me. I used to like PoP and the general atmosphere of the server; until one day after not having played in a long time I attempted to join and found that I was banned. For abso-lute-ely nothing, other than a personal grudge.
I suppose reasonability in adminning is how you ultimately keep a server alive; and that's why Rob's and TAC are still alive. I would've never expected to put PoP on the list, but there is a reason servers like TCOs don't exist anymore.
When you admin like pretentious assholes, making up new 'rules' and brutally enforcing them at convienience, and start automatically banning anyone with skill for 'hacking', then what can you expect but your audience to all but disapear in no time at all.
I'm sorry it had to be that way, but for the PoPpers that aren't like that, I will still enjoy playing with you on TAC server now and then

Ban is as much as they can do, thus it's the furthest extent of their power, thus, relative to other options like a warning/llama/kick/anotherkick/temp ban, it's the most 'brutal' thing they could do. And no, I'm not particularily bothered by it.

Frankly I'm amazed at how much people care about being banned. Some of them are quite persistent trying to get unbanned, but they usually do more harm to their case than good. Personally, when I get banned from a server that has no relevance to anything I just go on my merry way and find another; if I get banned from something I should care about I usually don't let it sit, though.

part of the "problem" with the admin-ing on TTP was the fact that as time went on, we got different views on bans. I was much more leniant when it came to entering spawn than some of the others, but I know I was much more strict when it came to homophobic language.
I would only insta-ban for 2 things, racism and the use of the word "fag". "gay" was one thing, especially when not said about another player, but "fag" was an insta-ban. However, only the racism (most of the time it would have to be a slur to get me pissed off) would get the perma-ban. If the person who got banned for whatever came onto the PoP forums and asked nicely to be unbanned, in most cases, they were unbanned and were allowed to play again.
But like I said, a large part of the problem was that we each had our own habits/rules when it came to banning. I have no comment on the idea that PoP bans out of spite, or because we don't like the player, which we have been acused of. I will say this, I can say that there have been very few times where I thought a player shouldn't have been banned. But those are just difference of opinions at that point.

I'm kinda with mars on this one. I was always more of a softy as an admin than most others. I would typically give everyone a warning before a ban and only have one or two perma-bans to my name. But despite my tendency towards giving warnings, I would still ban those who break our rules.
There have been times when I thought we should have given the person a second/third chance but the banning admin refused. But there have also been times when we DID give the person another chance only to have them come back to our server and break our rules again, often even worse than the first time. Our rules are clear and people who broke them were dealt with accordingly, and I'm sorry if you don't agree with that.

In my case, as you can clearly see if you want to go have a look on the PoP forums, it had nothing do with me breaking rules at all. I was banned for 'long jumping', having never done it on your server at all, and having never known that it was 'against the rules' (not stated anywhere) while I wasn't even playing.
Of course, that was just a pathetic excuse to ban me on a grudge, and I obviously was given no 'second chance'. When it came down to me proving the point on PoP's forums, a bunch of people finally came in and even a few pop members came in a said, yeah, I don't think this is quite justified and then my thread was just closed and the issue dropped...
I just assume that if that happened to me then I'm probably not the only one banned for about as much reason as Fuzz would ban someone on the SD server when he's in a pissy mood, or TCO would ban someone from his server in the good old days. Nothing more than personal amusement or a personal grudge against a player.
When it comes down to PoP, the clan, and the server in general I always loved it and had agreed with the rules, but when you change to policy away from 'reasonability' and 'the rules go' to 'admin knows best' for no particular reason and let a few bad apples just do whatever they please for no particular reason, it really discourages people from just playing a game on your server and enjoying a friendly atmosphere. Because nobody wants to play a game where they have to tip-toe around a certain player to avoid being banned, or have to go about sucking up to some ego-deficiency jerk off in virtual land while they are just having a game of FA and trying to unwind.
Which is exactly why, as I originally said, the places adminned generally more 'reasonably', who stick to their rules, are the places that will continue to have a good friendly atmosphere, and a good audience of players worth keeping the server alive for. So, with that all said, I find what happened with PoP to be a shame and I will continue to enjoy playing with (most) pop members on the servers that are still alive.

1) I always found the atmosphere on our server to be quite friendly. And I think a lot of it was because people didn't have to worry about being made fun of, flamed, or exploited. I'm sorry if you had to "tip-toe" your way around on our server, but our rules are not unreasonable.
2) People shouldn't have to "tip-toe" around saying homophobic/racist slurs or flames. It just shouldn't be an issue.
3) The "audience" we had at TTP I would say is some of the best in FA and certainly were worth keeping around. They were respectful of others, were not bigots, not flamers, nor llamas, or lamers. You didn't have to worry about some punk coming in and running his mouth, ruining your game.

Your rules aren't unreasonable, just a few admins that banned for reasons that had nothing to do with the rules.

Nobody had to tip toe around clearly stated rules, just jerkoff admins that banned without reason.

TTP was hard on assholes. They would have to tiptoe around and not be themselves. Some managed to do it quite well. I'd play with them on other servers and they'd be total assholes. They'd go to TTP and behave themselves.
I was an asshole admin. I always advocated the Zen school of adminning. I only had one standard: Did I care to play with you? "Fairness" was never a consideration. I simply didn't wish to play with racists, homophobes, mic-spammers, team-stabbers, and other assorted juvenile twerps. I banned people for what they were, not necessarily what they did. It created an environment that was enjoyable for me and I think many others. Tiptoeing was only an issue for those that had some inherent character defects. All admins have some quirks. Gator, I would like to thank you for your kind words.
As much as I would like to take credit for TTP, alas I can't. It Began with Brack and Trystan and the original Downward Spiral. The philosophy and rules were theirs to begin with. First with the original TDS and later with TDS2.
Wasted Tracy began the original TTP just before TDS2 went down. The rules were based on the original TDS but were adjusted by Tracy. The fact is, if you are paying for the server, you make the rules.
We added the no Homophobic, and racist language then. Later as we [PoP]ers deemed a reasonable rule added the no entering spawn.
Much to the chargrin of those who try to trash TTP, it became a very popular server. To back up this claim I once recorded over 15,000 steam ID's in a 3 month period.
If you look the fact that in that 3 month time frame, we probably banned no more than 200-300 people that means that only 1-2% of the players could not follow the rules, and of those 200-300 only about 10 made it to the Perma-Ban Warehouse.
That means that less than .06% were banned from playing at all.
The rules were simple. They may not have been applied evenly by all, but we did the best we could.
You broke the rules, we banned first. All you had to do to be unbanned was say you were sorry and wouldn't do it again, but some players, .06% took an attitude and said how dare we. We dare because we payed for it.
All in all, I will remember TTP with fondness, and remember that in all the years I have played FA, I personally have only banned less than 5 people, and 3 of those were only 1 hour bans. I was such a hard ass admin.
So all in all, if you look back at those numbers, how can you say that the FA community was bad, when in reality it was not. Only those select few who were so vocal made it seem that way.

Anyway, Bald_Eagle, there were only a few servers I respected during my tenure at The Armory, and I must say yours was on the top. Most players have no idea the time, money, administration, and effort needed to provid a nice server and/or forums.
On behalf of The Armory, and it's members, I bid you farewell.
The Armory will be soon to follow.
Regards,
Gator
I've played on the POP server when I first started playing fa and I had a good time never had a problem. Sad to see it go. :(
It will be quite awhile before TAC FA server will go I hope?

This weekend Ladies and Gentlemen...get your FA loaded because we're trashing the trailer park!
Lets get the party started on Friday night-around 7 Eastern or whenever the keg arrives. Lets try to fill this bitch with PoPpers on friday night...we can even PW it if you like. Bring your own beer and a headset to scream and curse once again at the unfairness of it all. As for a map list, we'll just play whatever in the hell we want....7 straight hours of Issa's? You got it.
Saturday...lets clear that mean ol' ban list and have some fun-release them all and if they piss us off again...bfd. Ban 'em.
Sunday Sunday Sunday! Come one, Come All! It's TK Sunday at the Park! Thats right kiddies..lets put the fun back into TKs....who the hell needs a button to punish some llama...just go kill him yourself! We'll turn that Friendly fire onto high and see what develops...who will outlast Bobo's Clays of Doom? Who can dodge the Random knife to the back? Lets get those screenies while we can!
I'm on a fresh install of XPSP2 and you want me to install steam and FA? I love you all, but come on ffs...
Instead, I'll get on rcon and bury and llama and slay until my fingers bleed.

TDS and TTP in all its versions were the reason I played FA after 2.5-6 :) Always alot of good players and alot of fun players on the server, and the ever charming 'Bait letting loose with a salvo of kick/bans on occaision always made it interesting :) Loved the server and loved the game, thanks for providing for us. Hope to see all you old codgers in the next game.
