Not literally, but maybe. I've had this before, in a different house before I moved. My FA gets choke and loss every 2 min or so, same with every other game I play. I pinged yahoo.com through cmd prompt, and averaged 40ms for 2 mine then it shoots up to 2k MS then about 700ms then 200ms then 40 again for another little bit, then back up to 2k and so forth.

Why it is doing this? someone running off my router? i dont have programs open during FA and stuff, i only have a few processes running at a time, this is weird.

any ideas?.. and no format c:

I had that problem when i was on a B network. The wireless 802.11g should smooth things out for you as long as the computer connected to the net and router is all G and so is your machine.

my drivers are G, my router is G, mycard is G and all drivers are properly installed. this is fucking retarded.

I have fucked up problems with my linksys-G shit. I get awsome downloads and pings, but I choke 90+ all the time. Really frustrating.

ya me 2. but i think i may have solved it still get loss, but its 1/4 the size and not as often. i think this is a normal connection now, i changed the router to emit only G signal for my card to pick up, i may have been picking up both G and B thus confusing teh router and getting loss.

am i right?

No idea. I have to run B and G since my brothers laptop only supports B, and he cried last time I even turned WEP on.

I used to have the very same problem, but it was because I was using a USB 2.0 external Linksys B/G antenna with Speedbooster. I solved it by plugging it into a different USB port, since in a moment of sheer nubcaekery, I managed to plug it into the USB 1.1 ports on the front of my case.

It was absolutely terrible before I figured that out, FA and DOD had terrible choke every minute or so. I'm thinking that's how long it took for the packets being transferred over the USB 1.1 to get "jammed up" because of the craptacular speed.

Thats a good idea, actually. I've been using the same PCI slot for the last several wireless cards I've owned...

i seem to get lag spikes every few mins. like my ping jumps to like 200 + then goes back to normal in a second :S

anyone know why that is ?!?!

Holy shit! I swapped PCI slots on my wireless card (And rewired the inside of my computer to be cleaner in the process) and now the choke is gone! I've been testing for about a half hour and the choke stays down >5 for the most part. I'll play more and see if it stays this way.

The secret is to use wires. Wireless networks are for pussies who are afraid to run cable to every room in the house.

I wanted wired, dad wanted wireless. His house, he won.

Haha, that's great. My dad and I set up a wired network specifically because it would be a million thousand times easier for my parents, who are somewhat computer-stupid. I literally told my dad, "Yeah, a wireless network would be great, but since I'm the only one in the house who knows jack crap about computers, meaning that if I leave you're all boned, I think we should stick with wires, because wired is a lot simpler."

God Fucking Damnit, does anyone know how to make a POS Ibook use WEP? All it wants to use are the fucking non-industry-standard apple propietary securities. Hell, even under WEP settings it only supports 40 and 128 bit.

Yeah, I told them to get a PC laptop 3 years ago, but at the time thats all my brothers school supported.

Ugh. FFS, even my PSP supports WEP. Fuck you apple.
