I just got FA and Steam working again, but it's lagging horribly.

So I'm asking for basic and complex tweaking methods.

So far, the least laggy set up is

1,280 x 1,024, D3D, Highest audio and highest textures. So can you guys give me some tips?

Start steam up and right click it while it's inside the Windows systray. Go to settings, and then Internet. Make sure it's not at 14.4, or something ridiculously low like that.

I have to do that from time to time myself. Quite annoying.

Yeah... There it is. I believe Evil was going to work it into the Firearms FAQ, so that's why it's closed I think.

Edit: Netcode Thread stuck and opened.

You seemed to be experiencing video lag as well when we played today.

r_drawviewmodel 0
cl_particles 0
fps_max **
fps_modem **

Turn the fps_ commands up to 100 and see where your fps is mostly at. Then lower it to what that is (ie, if your most common FPS is 50 lower your fps_max and _modem to 50)

-edit- Oh, and switch to 800x600 and switch to OpenGL mode. Normally OpenGL gives better FPS results unless you use an older video card. I have mine on d3d but it's because I HATE blurry crosshairs.

D3D is horrible. No really, it's just horrible. Even when I use it and get 100fps with it, I still get weird video lag where I'm getting 100 frames but it's lagging behind my actions strangely more than OpenGL does. Noticably so. It's just horrible.

Use Opengl, with.. whatever. And it'll help.

go to OpenGL and try a different res with 16bit color.

I linked it, because it was over one reply and then I would have to do a lot more work than I wanted to do to keep my faq in order.

My lag is caused by loss, its not a video thing for me. i cant fix it :\

Changed it to 1024 x 800, OpenGl, 16 bit, did the netgraph, runs smoothly. Thank you guys.

Yeah, so I lagged horrible, fps_modem xx helped a bit. Meh, I probably just need a better computer, or update it.

also if you need it to run smoother either make your rates higher or go to a res such as 800 x 600 which will give you a little more fps.
