I saw this on the news, and I about threw my TV out the window. I can understand some people believing that capping malpractice awards to help lower insurance rates, but this is just insane. They expect ALL people who are victims of malpractice to be content with $1.5 million. In my own opinion, that will probably NOT cover medical costs of the more severe malpractice suits. Also, if the suit leaves you bedridden, does $1.5 million really justify it? It's wrong to just blanket every single case with this awarding, since it's proper to have every case be judged on its own.

Makes me wonder.. What is the average / median lawsuit award from malpractice then? How many lawsuits are there generally each year?

Well ok, the article suggests around 220 annually in illinois?

This .pdf file from citizen.org seems to basically counter all the points of out-of-control lawsuits.

That's a weird one,, I've heard malpractice insurance has tripled for dotors in the last few years,,

Considering there was that guy who practiced medicine for 20 years without anything more than a highschool diploma (and repeatedly got busted) I'd say the
root of the problem is with screening doctors,,,

Guess this is my chance to say that privitiazation always has consequences...
