Well, straw's asked me to tell how I got my crosshairs so crisp. Just like vid_d3d 1.
Well, here you all are. I've told a few people this little trick and even released it once or twice but people don't seem to like doing it for the reason that they have to switch video modes (to D3D).
In step form:
1). Open up your config.cfg. For you noobs out there, the .cfg file will be unaccessible. Just double click on it and choose to open it with notepad.
2). Go down to a key you don't use and change the command that the key is bound to to:
gl_texturemode gl_linear_mipmap_nearest
So the entire bind will look like this:
bind "key" "gl_texturemode gl_linear_mipmap_nearest" ("key" being the key you want bound to this)
3). Scroll to the bottom and make sure the following line is PRESENT:
exec userconfig.cfg
4). If that line ISN'T present make it so.
5). Close your config.cfg and save when prompted. Right click on it and choose 'Properties'. Find the check box that says "Read-only" and check that. Then close it.
6). Open up your userconfig.cfg if you have one. If not, make a new txt document and name it "userconfig.cfg". Then open it.
7). Type in this line
gl_texturemode "gl_nearest_mipmap_linear"
8). Save, close, make Read-only.
9). Open up your game and change the video mode to D3D. this WILL work with OpenGL but it's not nearly as crisp and clean. THel ines look all uneven and they're clunky and crappy looking.
10). Your game will restart and hopefully open up in D3D mode. Start your game (join a server) and enjoy your crisp crosshairs. If you look at the walls and things close up you'll notice they look like garbage. Pressing the key you bound in Step Two will correct this.
