When I go into My Computer all it does is take forever to load up the window to show me my drives. I just changed the page file on all of them from custom settings to system managed because my C:\ jumped from having 1.5 gigs left to 400 megs left without me having installed anything on it. I can't format until I back everything up, so what should I do?

Burn some of your pr0n to CDs or DVDs to clear up some hard drive space!

delete some shit and make your file table bigger if your drive is NTFS

Hm, I need to buy some DVDs. I have a DVD burner but no DVDs.
If I were to get DVDs how can I burn movies to them?

Assuming that it's not because you have a bad processor (hell, my old Presario had a 1.1 Celeron) I would try doing the normal computer overhaul: disk cleanup, defrag, spyware search, the works. Then try turning off System Restore; I find it basically useless unless I have some sort of experimental program that might make my computer crash or something, and that saves hundreds of megs on your hard drive.
Also, if you're having slow processing problems, try googling "TuneXP" without the quotes, and, if you have an Intel processor, "Intel Application Accelerator"; I have both of those on my Dell, and they work wonders: IAA added an extra 100 MHz to my processor, and TuneXP can do all sorts of things, like make booting up faster, for example. Basically, I got all these tips from an IGN article that talked about how to improve your computer enough to play HL2 (assuming that you have good enough hardware); here's (http://gear.ign.com/articles/554/554744p1.html) the link.

If you have two partitions you can get neat little programs that "donate" space from one partition to another. I had the same problem.
My C: was at less than 100 MB and I had 15 GB left on D:
I found a program and BAM! I had an extra 5 gig's on C: drive. I can recommend you come programs but I needto go out. Hit me up on MSN some time.

Hm, I do have 2 partitions, that sounds nifty. I'll be sure to "hit you up" on "MSN"

Alternatively, rather than spend $50 on a set of DVD-Rs spend it on a nice shiny 80Gb HD and install that.
One final tip is to turn off all the drive letters you aren't using, windows wont try and search for disks attached to the letter and should speed up explorer load times. For some reason I can't find that option, google should have the answer (as usual)

I use all my drives though :/
The problem ended up fixing itself.
And I'd go and buy a new 80GB HDD, especially since I just bought one and it's almost out of space, but I don't know where I'd put it in my case as it's being used up by 2 HDDs and 2 CD drives. I guess I could take out my CD-ROM drive and just use the DVD / CD-R combo drive to read regular CDs and then attach a new HDD to the cable that my CD-ROM drive was using, right?

I just turned off my Floppy Disk from Device Manager (disabled it) and my My Computer window loads instantly. So, I assume you just turn them off by disabling them under Device Manager.

I don't even have a floppy disk drive.
By the way, speaking of floppy disks, anyone know where I could get a few of those OLD, huge, black, floppy disks?
I love old, huge, black, floppy dicks.

You mean those ultra-thin ones that were like 4-5 inches long and wide and held less than 3.5" hard "floppies"? My dad used to have a crapload of those for his DOS-running POS when I was like 5 or something.
But anyways, if you're ever going to ghost your computer after taking everything off, partitioning the drives actually helps a lot. My Dell has a 120GB drive that took forever to defrag and crap. When my brother ghosted it, he partitioned it into four roughly equal smaller drives, and now it runs a hell of a lot faster.

I need some of them 5" floppy disks for this. (http://www.readymademag.com/feature_18_monkey.php)
Explain to me what ghosting is, I've never heard of it.

It's a term that I picked up off of my high school's computer teacher. Basically, it just means to restore the computer back to its factory settings by completely wiping the hard drive Windows is on, then reinstalling Windows, giving you basically a clean slate.

Actually it isn't. Ghosting is the term coined by users of Norton Ghost (see the connection?) for the act of building one or more hard drives from a previously created disk image.

The Russian "c" actually makes a "s" sound, but the Russian "d" is really a "b"; so in Russian, it would become "bisks."

if you are really struggeling for diskspace you could turn off indexing, which makes searching a bit slower, but give you a surprisingly amount of diskspace back
(in case you were wondering: right click on a drive - properties - deselect indexing)

I have not had any problems with windows XP at all...
That tweak XP program is pretty cool though.

You page file should be set to the same min and max...that way it wont waste effort resizing that piece. 1.5x the amount of RAM is generally a good setting.
