Well, im gettin one, should be here by the end of the month. It was reccomended by Andrew Webber, that guy I was talking about who builds sniper rifles for the Yanks. Im trying to get into the long range side of shootin and this is a pretty cheap doorway i'd say. Anyone have any experience with these rifles, any nuances I should be aware of?

What action did you get? Long action or short action?

I used to own one - a VERY good weapons platform, as SWAT and I say on a regular basis to people who ask about the 700, it almost has indefinite upgrade capability because it's such a diverse platform.

When you save some, you may wish to buy a MacMillan stock or a HS Precison stock, just for that more added comfort and ergonomics.

Leupold Vari-X series sights are a good bet on the 700. There are other brands, like Trijicon, Unertl, US Optics. These are all good, but can be very pricey.

No, target shooting and mid-long range competition shooting. Not much in my area to hunt at range, maybe when I get to Colorado.

Well actually, Falcon answered most of my potential questions. I'll probably get a Leopold on it, I hear all kinds of good things about that company. And maybe i'll use it for hunting. 26" is a little bit long for the country around here, so I doubt it really.

I bought a Leupold, Mk4 LR/T 3.5-10x40mm tactical M3, it's sexy. Try the 20" 700p LTR if you don't want the long barrel.

Yeah, I had a Vari-X III 4.5-14x50mm with Illuminated German Dot reticle. That was nice, but that was before the release of the Mk.4s so, go for the latest.

That was my first choice actually but Webber said that the 20" barrel would kill accuracy past about 400 metres. This isnt gonna be a hunting rifle, it's gonna be a long range target rifle. The range here has an 800m stretch, so I need all the barrel I can get.

Go 26'' then, it's what I got. Can't wait till I get a chance to play with it.

I had a 26" 700P, and my mate had a 20" 700P LTR. His accuracy at ranges over 600 meters was seriously deficient - so whenever we went out shooting, he'd always wanna take my rifle (could have had something to do with the HS Precision stock I had too... ) :p :D

I might buy another soon. Go for maybe a MacMillan and turn to the dark side, SWAT? Marine Style? :P

Yeah probably go 7.62x51mm again, 26" and Schmidt & Bender sights...

Try a macmillan....I think Elwood was selling a cheap A5 stock. I personally wanted to as best I could recreate an M24 so I went H+S Precision for my stock, but the MacMillan's are very nice too.

Yeah, i agree with you there. I loved my HS Precision, but a change may be good.

What? There was plenty to hunt in Florida when I was there. Old people and Alligators. And old people.

Both are protected species. Unfortunately. But them's the breaks.

Yep, unfortunately. Fortunately the government does a good job culling both herds down here.

Problem is other than Payne's Prairie outside Gainesville, there's not much wide open land here....most of the state is well forested, having been swampland from long since.

No, the barrel was quite hot actually from having fired 3-4 shots at a 12 inch steel plate that was in the vicinity of the target box.

I had a friend spotting for me on the steel plate because there was a stiff wind from left to right that required 5.5 MOA of windage. The first shot fired at the steel plate was about a foot low and 3 feet to the right, elevation call was about perfect but the wind was rediculous.

He never would have been able to spot the hits if I had fired at the target stand, within 3 shots we heard shots impacting the steel.

Oh, and as for the group it's relatively damn good, it's sub-MOA and more importantly it's to point of aim for conditions that were relatively marginal. Hold a dollar bill up to the screen to if your monitor is effecting the relative size of the group, I can cover the actual group with my hand.

yeah ive never shot in conditions like that, the only time i did any good was like a year and a half ago i think, shot a coke bottle from about 350 yards away, that was one of my best shots ever lol , also took 2 shots though :(
