The only reason I stopped playing was because of the monotony, but that's broken now since I don't play anymore. Instead of OTF, coding for WAW, and playing some OFP all day, I'm going to drop OFP and start playing FA again.

Not that I'm aware of, though I seem to recall it was a rumored feature of 2.6 that never materialized. The next best thing was the marinebot.

Technically yes. ChristianOelund did a Quake I mod under the firearms name that basically added some guns with an impressive amount of customisability, and you could play the 'stock' Q1 maps with them. I believe it had MP support.

Nothing like HL FA though.

I started years ago. 2.1 I believe..I'm not too sure. First time I played, I got the desert eagle, and the spamstick. I did okay, came fresh from CS, expected FA to be somewhat simular, but with less hackers that thought their stuff was better than what we put out at the RageX forums..First match I scored even on was the second one, when I found the Uzi+spamstick. Oh, that brings back memories.

Uh...somehow I doubt that seeing as that's significantly below the min specs for HL. Hell I doubt even quake could run on that.

Yeah, about the same with me. I discovered the joy of 2.4 right at its release and played the hell out of it all through 2.5. After that it just lost something for me, but FA will always have a place in my gaming heart. I've at least tried every version since 2.65 (praying for the 2.4ness to return)

It was barely below the min specs at the time and it ran it alright. I think I got around 10 fps in half-life. I was the guy that when I joined a server, my ping was always around 1000. So, place your doubt somewhere else because I know what computer I played HL on at the time.

The first time I saw FA was RC1.0 was at my friend's house at the beginning of my 8th grade year. We played it once but became hooked on TFC instead.

But I actually started playing FA when we picked it up again in 2.3 and I'd been playing it ever since. So thats like 6 years or something. :eek:

Loaded it initially from a CS retail cd-what version was that? I seem to remember having to DL 2.3 to update things; tried it & thought it was cool, life went back to sucking. Played again-had to update to 2.4; played that for a while, life sucked more; DL'd 2.5 just in time for 2.6 to come out, been playing steady since. The whole 2.3-2.5 timeframe is kind of a blur.

I personally like to think I've been some part of Firearms since I saw the accouncement for it in Planet Half-Life, back before any mods were released. I clicked the website, and it was all white. It had a list of weapons that were going to be included and said they will have single player, and I thought to myself, "Wow this is going to be sweet". That was the same day I saw the advertisement for Counter-Strike, another up and coming mod that was being worked on. Nothing would be released for a little while after.

I followed the mod but didn't actually play it extensively until 2.4. I remember 2.5 a lot better though.

The first version of FA I played was 2.5, the only thing I remember was being raped by the aug everywhere I went. Somehow I guess I had fun regardless, because I kept playing until 2.6 came out, and then I begin to remember more of the game. I started with the ak-47 in 2.6, then moved to the ak-74 in 2.65, in 2.7-2.8 I used the mp5, in 2.9 I used the m4, and in 3.0 I used the resurrected ak-74. Some good times spent playing. Even though PoP was the only clan I've been in, I'm glad.

I started on a lan with my new housemates from university. When one of the comp science guys installed our student house network.

We formed a house clan (the 6 of us): 401[sfs] -thats the 401 smithdown road, liverpool, Special forces service (or Student f*cking sadists if u prefer :P)

We played 6 glorious games - all of which we lost, but had great times playing a clan called the Belgian Paras, who became and still are (to those of us left), great friends.

I moved onto clan GUBM | in 2.6 (german u-boat men - dont ask why lol)

And finally into TSC by 2.65

I had a brief but fun time with NTK at the end.

I played in 2 Eufals, 2 FALs, a couple of cups and missed out on the nations cup (reserve for that fated Germany game :( ), and overall had a great time.

I miss the old days of shitloads of full servers to play on and shit loads of players playing - for all its faults - 2.5 for life

Sorry for the info but seeing all the old guys here made me want to remember

I started in 2.1, stopped playing during 2.7 due to technical problems (I couldn't run Half-Life for some reason. Never resolved it.) Otherwise I might have kept playing.

I remember tp_dish, ps_nightstalkers, ps_street, and my all time favorite, ps_dangerzone. In fact, I have my entire pre-steam HL directory zipped on my current computer, I bet a lot of the older maps are still in there.

First day of 1.0. Whenever that was. I played tp_boat and messed around with the barret and the vollmer and then a little later I remember there was a huge server with the old buggy tp_soviet and I was like the only one who knew how to conquer the vents on BOTH sides :D Then dropped off during the middle of the 2.x era, as everything got progressively nerfed and randomized without really improving the balance and at the same time introducing all the frustration of CS and more unexcitingly linear ps maps came along. Sigh.

Recently I took some time thinking about it and decided that the semi-realism of most modern FPS games introduces an element of gambling; too many random factors and you aren't able to evaluate your skill so well anymore - so you can't progress, and neither can *most* other people; but since skill remains, in a more nebulous form, some people always beat the odds. Hence, frustration. If there were better ways to aid my learning the "new style" FA, I probably wouldn't have quit.

But then, I really got into DDR and stuff around then too. So maybe not.

Now the m60 is a joke and I don't bother with it too much anymore. Yes, I was an aug whore, damn good gun. Now I use the Ak 47 or 74 most of the time. Sometimes I use the mp5. When things really get sticky I go for the grenade launcher.
I tried forming a clan <STTF> and hosting my own FA server back at the begining of 2005 but found intrest waning for the game and abandoned the effort.
I found a CD in my backups from 2000 with the fa2.4 exe file.
I remember playing on the same servers as Pornstar, joseywales, psycho, and others posting here. Really do miss the fun. There used to be someone hosting an fa 2.5 server on steam but I think that went away. There are still a couple of servers running 3.0 on steam and I go by there when I get tired of DoD and DoD:S.
Maybe I will host a 2.4 or 2.5 server just for kicks!
