SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California Gov.
Arnold Schwarzenegger signaled on Wednesday that he would seek a second term as governor in what would already be his fifth major campaign since seeking the office in 2003.

The former Hollywood actor kicked off a series of campaign events this week ahead of a special election he has called for November on teacher pay, redistricting and the state budget. In an appearance before an invited audience in Clovis, California, he said he would announce on Friday whether he will seek a second term for governor starting in 2006.

"I'm not in this for the short term," he told the crowd, strongly suggesting he would run again. "I believe strongly in follow-up."

Speaking to often enthusiastic crowds in controlled campaign settings is a role the star of the "Terminator" star clearly relishes, and perhaps his greatest talent in politics.

"Anyone who has watched the governor's political career knows that he is a superlative campaigner," said Tim Hudson, director of the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento. "He both energizes and is energized by going out on the campaign trail."

As a Californian, I think he's done a fine job and would vote for him if he runs.

Well he can't be doing that bad if I haven't read anything about him in the news lately besides saying he would veto that gay marriage bill (his justification about the court being the final say makes sense but still)

If this were the OTF, I'd say something like, "I still think you're all retards for voting for him :D." But since this is the Firebox, I'll make a relavent answer.

I haven't heard a lot about what he's been doing, but I've heard rumbles over the last year or so. I might not have the whole picture, but from what I can tell, his chances are a bit sketchy.

He vetoed it ~12 hours after the bill was passed.

Does he have a list of what he plans to do in his second term?

I duno, I'll give him props on that he seems to have re-balanced the hemoraging California budget, but his approach to it has left a good number of people less then apathetic over the situation (or so it seems to me at least).

It seems that whenever I see something on TV or in the newspaper about the governator, it's not too supportive of what he's been doing.

Arnold has something like a 36% approval rating now.

People (including me) expected him to use his celebrity status as a way to reconcile the divided parties while being able to push his plans and "balance the budget". Instead, all CA has gotten so far was a bit of an improvement over Gray Davis... Arnold rarely plays out of his party rather than the melting pot that was hoped for.

IF he was voted back in, it would probably have more to do with fame rather than policy. But i still wub him -- he's a perfect example of the "American dream".

I recall hearing California's budgetary problems could have been alleviated had the state pushed the lawsuits they had against the energy companies that Arnold then dropped when he took office.
