So, I recently purchased some Altec Lansing AHS515 stereo headset with microphone. Of course, they're awesome, and I haven't read a bad word against them on online reviews, but like all good things that happen to me, there's a problem.

The microphone simply does not work. I've checked everything possible. Volume sliders, advanced tabs, jacks, etc. It just simply doesn't register. Trying out the Test Hardware system under the Voice tab on volume settings brings me back the message that it didn't hear me voice.

I don't know what else to say beyond that. All sliders are maxed, everything is set to as it should be, I have latest audio drivers, the whole bit.
The sound works perfectly, it's just the mic.

Have an nVidia nforce mobo with pink and green jacks.

EDIT: And replacing it isn't really an option atm, so don't recommand that

I've searched google tirelessly and only found this:

but like all good tech support oriented forums, there's no response.

Anyway, hopefully someone out there knows a solution. Help!

Do you normally cancel your audio mixing program in the alt-ctrl-dlt menu when your comp. boots up?

no, if you're refering to the NVmixer that comes with the nForce audio

Here's what I'm working with

NVmixer comes with my onboard sound.
I noticed the Microphone slider under Input was low, I turned it up but no use.

Sorry for the small text

check in the lower mixer - options - properties

select record and hit ok

there you'll find the mic record levels. Check those if you haven't yet.

And to be 100% sure: check if your mic jack is in the correct input, it an get rather confusing sometimes.
