Half (un)installed windows components

Ok, so I tried to uninstall a windows component (IIS - don't laugh I needed it for a quick web server test) but Windows crashed halfway through (RPC service failed !?!)

So now I'm left with a half installed component, Control Panel says its there but it wont uninstall, it just hangs with 4 bars. I can't reinstalled as Control Panel says its there.

Anyone know how to fool the Add/Remove Windows components thingie to think it's not there ?

Reformatting isn't an option unfortunately.

Or you could always try one of those fancy cleaner / uninstaller programs.

Somewhat, I actually managed to find the entry in the registry that sets what components are installed or not and changed the IIS values from 1 to 0. I then reinstalled IIS over the top of the old half uninstalled version and then uninstalled the lot.
