Definately on my "I want" list. I'd justify it by saying it's my beanfield rifle :D

Just wondering
where do you guys buy your rifles?
I'm sure my parents (mom, dad would think it's cool) wouldn't approve, but there's a possbility.

I bought my SKS at a gun show, my Remington 870 12 Gauge at Big 5 Sporting Goods, and I bought this new beauty at the local indoor-range/gun-shop. Gun shops are pretty rare here in orange county, but their prices aint bad. I'm sure you could find a gun shop in your local area.

Have you done the "This is my rifle this is my gun" chant? Also, I believe the US Marine website has the rifleman's speech. "This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine"

How much did it cost you? The cheapest I see them around here are like $2000.

Well, I actually had ordered a squad scout for $1414, but apparently none of their suppliers had any, and Springfield had them on back-order so it could be 1-3 MONTHS til I got my rifle. That is unacceptable, so the owner of the store cut me a deal and dropped the price on the National Match to $1499 AND give me 50 bucks store credit. So I took the deal, waited my 10 god damned days and got my rifle. Now I need to get some *ahem* standard capacity magazines, a 2 MOA-dot Aimpoint, bayonet lug if it's legal, get the barrel blued, and maybe paint the stock in a desert tiger-stripe pattern, cuz I'm a Randy Shugart wannabe.

Now can you go to somewhere like Nevada or Arizona and get the stuff that you are not allowed to buy in Kalifornia?

Towelie, you look rather shifty.

That rifle is pretty sexy, but it's a damn shame the wood lacks TEH SHINY! The hottest of `em all is the M25 WHITE FEATHER! *ruins pants thinking about it*

Don't get the bayonet lug...

The M1A is barely making it in Ca. as a "non-Assault Weapon" because they managed to neuter it.

They got rid of the flash suppressor and bayonet lug to make it legal, remember the Ca. definition of an "assault weapon" is any center fire semiauto capable of accepting a high cap detachable magazine in combination with ONE evil feature beyond the ability to accept a high cap detachable mag.

That means the flash suppressor and bayonet lug had to go. Can't add any features onto the firearm because of the detachable magazine. No M14 pistol grip stocks, flash suppressor, or bayonet lug as it would create a "Ca. assault weapon."

Nice rifle, should run very nice for you for quite a long time. I STILL need to get mine, have 4 20 round mags that have been sitting here for years waiting for the day I get an M1A. I'm waiting for a good deal on one, just gonna get a standard M1A with fiberglass stock so I can beat the hell out of it.

Try to get in on some decent surplus ammo while you can, it's drying up at a pretty quick rate.

STAY AWAY FROM INDIAN AND PAKISTAN AMMO! MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STUFF CAUSING TONS OF HEADACHES TO SHOOTERS INCLUDING BLOWN UP GUNS!

Good stuff out there includes the Aussie F4, Port 7.62(getting harder to find), South African 7.62, Hirtenberg if you can find it is excellent, and then there is some Federal XM80 out there which is spotty with some of it being great and some of it not being so good.

When you look into getting a mount for that rifle, consider ARMS and Brookfield for mounts. The Springfield mount will likely work for your purposes but it is not as durable and can be a hassle, the ARMS and Brookfield mounts are typical military standard for both the M25 as well as other accurized rifles. The Springfiled "M25" is coincidently not a true "M25", mounts are wrong and the rest of the gun simply isn't built to spec. A true M25 could be built by 1 or 2 custom shops for less than what Springfield would want for theirs.

Ugly makes some good points.

on the ammo front i haden't heard of problems from the indian surplus .308, have run about 1k rounds of that through my CETME, and while it is definately dirtier, it worked ok.

the aussie and soth african are definately good, and the hirtemburg is great, when and if you can find some.
