DeLay was indicted on September 28, 2005 by a Texas grand jury on issues dealing with his involvement in the PAC Texans for a Republican Majority. Because of the indictment DeLay will have to step down from his position as House Majority Leader at least temporarily.

Wow, they sure as hell took long enough deciding. Wonder why they took their time.

I see that we've now got one of the 13 most corrupt house members now filling DeLay's spot.

They've still got the two money laundering charges against him; only the indictment for conspiracy is affected.

It's standard procedure, but yeah, that's pretty funny. Last I heard his bail was set at $10,000.

ya, i tripped when i saw that picceh on the web (think it was CNN). what an ass. the artical read that he was hoping to avoid being booked and thusly having to have a mug shot taken. when i saw that, i thought "what an ass." only a f00kin' politician would have a smurk like that for his mug shot. smug bastard doesn't want a "bad" photo of himself circulating through public.

Well, it makes fucking sense. Would a politician want a widely-circulated photo of him looking groomed and beaming, or the other extreme, looking like Nick Nolte? Kind of a no-brainer, really.

bingo:
"The rules of the GOP conference call for members to give up leadership posts if they are indicted. That requirement was dropped in a push led by DeLay's allies last year, only to be restored after a storm of criticism."
he's guilty. he must have suspected this DA was on his ass, and moved to have this exception instated. someone else must have had the sense to notice something evil afoot, and decided it was wise to to restore the requirement.
that, or that same somebody may have been next in line after DeLay for the majority leadership position, found out what he was doing, and thought it best to attack him.
"House Republicans on Wednesday afternoon selected Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri as their acting leader. Reps. Eric Cantor of Virginia and David Dreier of California also will take on additional duties, House Speaker Dennis Hastert said."
someone try to dig up some dirt on Roy Blunt, see if any of the pieces of this puzzle fit.
-edit-
P.S.
what struck me as odd is that his sentence is relatively short, and his bail is rather low. don't senators make assloads of money each year? somethin like $80K ?

Or noticed that the DNC has no such rule and wanted parity.
