View Full Version : How hot does your GFX card run?

Just splashed out on a X1900XT-X and while it really does deliver on ingame performance there are some niggling issues that are bugging me.
1. occasional artifacting in POE2
2. Ramps up to 86C under load which is more of a worry, though not as bad as my X850XT that hit 98C before I replaced the stock cooler with an Arctic Cooler.
So anyone have any figures for me to compare with? I've checked using google but first hand experience is always nice.

I have the same card, and it does reach those temperatures. Probably should have got the 7900 GTX, eh?
I'm not sure what would qualify as artifacting. I get flickering textures (around the sights) on the weapons in BF2, which irritates me some.
I have shitty luck in buying computer components. I always catch the tail end of high prices before they drop the price substantially. D=

Make sure your PSU can handle it :o

From the looks of his system, it seems quite capable. (But 150W power consumption at peak is nutty.)

Also make sure you have good airflow in your case. If you don't, all the hot air is pretty much lingering around the components.

My Geforce 7600GT runs around 50-60 centigrade. Under heavy load, will probably peak at 65.

Id recommend replacing the cooling. That kind of heat isnt too good.

The temperature is normal for an X1900. The noise generated is slightly irritating, though. D=
I'll probably get an Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 for mine sometime in the future.

My GeForce 6800 is running at 67 degrees celsius. I'm not doing anything but playing forums :(
*sigh* Maybe I'll just underclock this son of a bitch. Dell cases are fucking CRAP. I just wasted half a can of compressed air on EVERYTHING in this system (PSU fan, CPU, CPU heatsink, CPU fan, GPU, RAM, air holes, etc.) and the ambient temperature inside the case is FIFTY fucking degrees celsius. I actually feel a substantial amount of heat on my legs when I boot up Civ4.
God, I hate Dell.

in my experience, 3 out of 10 times a card is artifacting, it's the PSU -- either it didn't have enough juice to begin with (my old 300W couldn't hope to run a 9800 PRO and overclocked XP1800+ with 2 HDDs and 2 CD-RW/DVD-RW drives) or the PSU is having problems (my old lemon 500W after a month)

My BFG 7800 GTX runs at about 49C when idle.

The way I solved my GFX cooling problem, along with most of the other cooling problems in my case is, I cut a hole in the side of my case and stuck a 120mm fan in there. I lined it up in such a way that it blows straight across the GPU, CPU, TV tuner, northbridge and southbridge.
Also, I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I think I'd like to rig up a better exaust for my CPU.

I was gonna buy an artic cooling replacement for the board, I did the same on my x850 which reduced the noise and the temperature significantly, well worth it for the pocket change they cost. HOWEVER the company I was buying from don't ship part of your order and the AC stuff was out of stock, I don't like waiting.
I'll buy one with my next order when I find something I want to replace, possibly a new keyboard.
The occasional artifact isn't scaring me yet, it's only in BF2 and could simply be a driver or config issue, i've noticed nothing like it in any other game so far.
PSU is a Enermax Noisetaker 480W (without opening the case to double check) and is solid as a rock. I'm not too concerned about that at least.
Just fitted a new CPU cooler that overclockers sent me to replace the temperamental one I've got, it blows straight out the back now which should help some more with cooling, sadly my designer case doesn't have any more spare slots for fans.
