No sound?!

Something weird has happened to my comptuer, and for some reason the only sound i can hear out of my speakers is the sound from music, winamp, itunes, etc. I cannot get sound from trillian, or anything on the internet. wtf?

I know...you're going to kill for asking this question, but did you cancel your audio mixing program?

If by cancel you mean delete or uninstall, no i didnt, i even checked the "mixer" to make sure everything was unmuted and turned up.

I mean in your task manager. If you don't have onboard audio, you most likely have a sound mixer program that you may have accidentally deleted when clearing running programs or maybe some program you use did it without you knowing.

No i'm still using the sound control panel for my sound card, so i'm pretty sure that's still intact.

I started up my comptuer today and it made me choose a hardware profile before it loaded xp... wtf?! and now my speakers have no bass. HALP PLZ

have you visited device manager recently to check for any errors reported there? Thats why hardware profiles are set up and I've never had cause to have more than one setup. Sounds like you have mulitple profiles in action, though god only knows how.
