...the cymbles (or whatever that brass thingy on a drum the drummer hits is called. Forgive my shitty musical insrument knowledge please) in all my music are really... pronnounced. I mean, they're kinda drowning out the guitars in the songs. I assume I have to tweak the equilizer in the sound card's options to artifically lower it. Any ideas which frequency I should alter? I've tried trial and error with not much luck.

You are not likely to be able to single out a single instrument in a prerecorded song but you should be able to manipulate the range in which it occurs. For excessive high frequency sounds (like cymbals) I'd start lowering the highend sliders until you notice a deadening of the instrument. Then start increasing the mids to enhance the guitar notes.
You could also see if your soundcard has preset equalizer settings. If it does try and see if the Rock and Roll preset makes it sound better.

Thanks-I'll jiggle around with the equilizer, now I know what I'm looking for.
