So I think I should back up some of my stuff. Now the question is , is there a programm that compresses the shit out of everything so that I don't have to burn 10 DVDs?

There are some pretty crazy compressions algorithms that just take too long for everyday use , but since this is a backup I would be ok with that..

Try 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). It's free, and on the "Ultra" compression setting it does a pretty good job of squishing the files down.

I've got about 200GB's I'd like to compress to back up on either a tape drive/DVD/another HD. What's the best way, beside 7-Zip, to either get them all on like a DVD, :p

Certain files wont compress very well at all as they're already as small as they can be; music, video and pictures fall into this category. Other files like plain test will compress really nicely.

I've always heard 7-zip is the best though it takes fucking forever.
