So in the upheaval that was my recent past, I managed to lose the key to my brand new, never installed windows pro thingy. I don't LIKE pirating, but hell, I don't wanna buy a whole nother copy. I have a bad feeling Microcock won't hear my plea.
Any ideas?

Is it XP or 2000? If it's 2000 they don't use the registration/verification system (unless things have changed). If it's XP it's a bit more difficult, at least anything that would help you wouldn't be allowed on here as it would most likely be considered warez.

2000 still asks for a CD-Key, though.
Unfortunately, all of the options I could present contravene the forum rules. (I have a really good one, that makes both activation and the "genuine advantage" bullshit go away, but ho boy is that not legal.)
The only thing I can recommend is wandering around areas that have corporate computers (Dell/Compaq/etc) with XP on them, and when nobody is looking, write down the CD-Key from the sticker on the back/side of the PC and use that. A camera phone makes that task much easier. Two entries isn't enough to upset WGA ( the "Genuine Advantage" nagging crap), and as a bonus it's legal because you already own a copy.

However if you have another valid key you can use it again.

Rob had a specactular suggestion. Go to like a best buy or something, they always have them on the side or back of the systems.

Err, yeah. I doubt BW has a 2k Pro key if he's asking about his WinXP Pro key.

He never specified that it was windows XP, he just said, "windows pro thingy" which means it could be either 2000 (doubtful but worth checking out since there aren't many ways of approaching this that won't get you banned), or XP in which case there is little we can do through posts.

Use terms like: Interweb, internets, windows i.d. installation number thing, windows xp professional OS operating system (sound proud of yourself when saying it), just phrase everything as awkwardly as possible.

I suppose that since XP Pro's been around since 2002, and that 2k pro wasn't really marketed towards end-users (ME was), it's pretty safe to assume that he's talking about XP. You're right in that he might be talking about 2k, but it's just pretty god damn unlikely from where I see things.

Again you missed my point, as far as help we can provide on the forums it might as well be 2000(which is not a bad operating system btw).

I got your point dead on, he might be running 2k. I still think that it's pretty unlikely, and that bringing up 2k just convoloutes things.
I don't like 2k. It's like a big, fat, ugly, disgusting whore. Versus XP, which is like a big, fat, ugly, disgusting whore with AIDS and 50 more pounds of fat than 2k, but at least she's dressed up nice.

Yes it's unlikely, but it's not like there's a shitload of other stuff we can suggest.

See the button that has a circle with a line through it?
Yeah, that's the "Any key."
