--quote from some AP article
Nine hours after she got on line Tuesday at one designated relief-supply location, Fanie Aristil, 23, of North Miami wearily left for home with 28 pounds of ice and six liters of bottled water.

"All that time," Aristil said. "This is all we get?
----

Uh, you just got 28 fucking POUNDS of ice. That's enough to keep your shit cold, and that's enough water for you to drink. QUIT BITCHING, YOU SHOULD HAVE STOCKED UP ON SUPPLIES BEFORE HAND YOU NON PREPARING MOTHER FUCKER!

God, I fucking HATE victims who (a) get a hand out and think they should get more, (b) are ungrateful for the help they do get, and (c) don't make preparations to help themselves. I've seen it at no less than 6 hurricane strikes over the past 2 years, and it's fucking trash.

I'd say that this is probably more of a case of fatigue rather than ungratefulness, or maybe she's just a bitch.

Most of these people likely are trying to adapt to the fact that they now have no power, water, or whatever, and expect it all to be restored immediately. Otherwise, it might be a case of where they expected the government to respond faster after Katrina. I agree that they should be more grateful, but you've gotta also look at the fact that they just had a shitload of their stuff demolished and have little to no way of ever getting it back again.

As if that weren't bad enough, I've seen articles in which tourists stuck on Cozumel were complaining that FEMA wasn't there helping them.

Earth calling, dumbass.....you're in Mexico and FEMA is a US government entity, remember?

lmfao @ goat's observation. cuz that deserves thousands upon thousands of spiteful laughs and pointed fingers, at the dumbasses who are actually wondering why FEMA isn't helping them...

The worst one was a telephone call I fielded about a week after Katrina hit.....

Some woman called from Pensacola, bitterly complaining that we weren't using FedEx overnight delivery (Earth calling again, dumbass.....FedEx decides when they won't fly into disaster areas, not us) to send her omeprazole (which is dirt-cheap at any pharmacy, less than many over-the-counter drugs, and without which you'll still live.....it's just a damn antacid, buy a box of Rolaids). After all, she deserved it because a tree damaged the roof of the house in which she lived and forced her to have to take up residence in one of the four other houses she owns.....but according to her we were a bunch of politically-correct bigots making capital out of catering to a bunch of no-'count poor Black Louisiana trash.

I pointed out that a few hours' drive to her west were a whole lot of people who were living on their roofs.....that is, if they had a roof left.

I swear, if I'd had a button on the telephone that delivered an electric shock to assholes like that I would have taped it down. I hope the rest of her Goddamn roof caved in.

I think most of it is people expecting someone else to take care of them. Usually the government.

And they don't realize how good they have it. When they're given shit at relief centers like this, and theres MILLIONS of people who are still worse off. Almost every Iraqi I walked by on a daily basis asked me for water, mostly during the 130 degree summer.

My opinion is still that they have a completely wrong perspective on things. They likely think that since all this shitload of money was donated for the Katrina victims, it's going to have an immediate impact, despite the fact that money takes a notoriously long time to wind its way through a bureaucracy.

Reminds me of the analysis written at Snopes.com... (http://www.snopes.com/katrina/personal/reststop.asp)

Purported personal accounts like the one describing a trashed rest stop tend to confirm a widely-held suspicion those evacuated from the wreckage of New Orleans are the dregs of society, content to live on handouts even as they verbally abuse those doing the handing out. Such characterization tends to fit more neatly into what people need to believe if they are to feel good about scaling back on the relief efforts underway — by convincing themselves recipients of their largesse are both unworthy and ungrateful, they will find it less painful to disassociate themselves than if the victims of Katrina remained in their minds sweet-faced little children, befuddled but lovable grandfathers, and struggling families who lost it all and now have nothing.

Handpicked news like this one serve the same purpose.

I gotta be honest, most Floridians strike me as either the coolest people on earth or complete fucking arrogant assholes. Sadly the former is a very, very small minority.

Complaining about receiving a large amount of ice and water is right in stride I'm sure. I'm sure she is missing her night clubs too.

Ironically a large part of the former group are the ones helping people after the hurricane, Vec.

Oh and Boneh, we're talking about two different hurricanes

And I'm sure the latter half is sitting around on their asses and complaining about recieving critical supplies. Oh wait.
