What are your top 3 mods of all time for an FPS, and why?
Mine:
#3: Day of Defeat: DoD isn't the first FPS with a ww2 theme, but it did (IIRC) make the idea more popular. Who knows, without DoD, there may not be a Call of Duty series, or Battlefield 1942 (which spawned the rest of the battlefield games). Online shooters may be short of a few popular titles without this mod, and it's rise in popularity.
#2: Capture the Flag: CTF has become pretty standard gameplay, and is seen as as ordinary as team DM or even plain DM, but I remember a time when it was not a part of the game as installed. Back when I started playing Quakeworld online, CTF was relitivly new, and it was a nice break from just shooting anything that moved. I wasn't even 100% sure teamplay could work in an online FPS, until I tried it, and I wasn't the only CTF n00b to say so.
#1: Team Fortess: If CTF made teamplay work, TF made it ROCK! The origional TF introduced things I'd never heard of before. Building things wherever you want on the map, class based teamplay. Grenades that did more than just explode, and objectives that were more than capturing a flag. Having a TF clone planned (much less released) for your online FPS is almost a sign you've made a game that's at least reasonably popular. Class based teamply on any online FPS owes a great big thanks to TF.

#3 Desert Combat (1.7 ish) best mod ever made hands down, atleast for me anyhow. It had the right blend of action vs tactical, and had a good scale to it (aka friggin huge without becoming an MMO). There was a wide variety of weapons, planes, armor, arty, etc and good maps to use them on. I really can't think of a single thing they really did bad with DC except in the later versions they really nubbed it down with alot of "realism".
#2 Action Halflife, because it killed my inner child and raped my youth.
#1 Some really old unreal mod that made all the player look like rabbits and had a sound pack thrown in for good measure, I'm not even sure if it had an official name. It is probably by no means the greatest mod or even all that good, but it got me looking into mods and online communities for games (and all that jazz). It was also hilarious to flak nade a giant rabbit.

In no particular order, I'd have to say CS, Action Half-Life, and Infiltration, all because they were either the first or the first really fun implementations of their types of gameplay. I'd still play any of those (preferrably older versions of CS/AHL) if other people did (or if i didn' thave weird issues with HL)

Specialists (for some reason it was awesome fun jumping around with dual Uzis)
FA (wasn't just because of the guns, but because it gave you a variety of tactics you could use)
NS (even being the basic alien thing was fun, since you could hook onto the ceiling and drop down on unsuspecting Marines)
solidsnake

The specialists and Action HL would've gotten in for me, if it wern't for:
TS: 90% of the time having half the server shout in all caps "NO GUNS, KUNG FU ONLY PUSSY!!!1!!!1" (Yea, I'll just ignore the 20+ weapons the guys who made the mod decided to uselessy put in it  )
AHL: Pinging 20 good servers, and having 15 of them be roleplay only. (HEY! They make a mod that involves lotsa action movie elements, akimbo guns, leaping, diving, knife throwing, sniping, etc! Lets just play like it's a 3d IRC and not even fire a single shot!! *99999)

Red Orchestra, CS, and FA... honourable mention to TFC, as I was ADDICTED to it pretty much all summer back in 2001.... good times :)

1) TFC - A good blend of action and tactics. And it had a Random Class option, which was the best for keeping you on your toes.
2) FA - It was just fun. Running around as IL DUCE with all the pistols was always fun.
3) CS - As it's the only other mod I've ever played pretty much.

Yup, sums up how frustrated playing TS got for me.
My favorite weapon combo for TS: Double barrel sawed off + Desert Eagle.
Sometimes did the revolver + Katana
And if in a goofy mood Akimbo 5.7's & the .22 ruger.

The Specialists (oh god how i loved pissing off RP'ers)
I'll never forget the times the OTF went into RP servers and camped with the AK47 on that map they always played and just picked them off one by one. Good times.

3. DoD 1.3 (OLD 1.3 before the new 1.0)
2. FA 2.5
1. TFC
Those 3 mods are what i played as a child and got me into the whole mod scene in general. I still remember getting up for school in the morning and playing some TFC on 56k before the bus.

I second the motion of starting up the specialist zombies again
Also I would play on RP servers seriously (I wouldn't really roleplay as in talk in character, but I would obey the rules and play how you're supposed to). I'm such a faggot :)
