View Full Version : Requesting ban
Makai Goblin

Ban me. Please.
I've returned and after a few months, I'm sick of the OTF again. I remember when the OTF was a place where, when I posted, people who didn't like it just ignored it.
I bet you're the same people who complain about a show they are watching, rahter than changing the channel.
Happy, now, Crosshair? I'm not posting any more threads, after this.
I should've learned the lesson life taught me in middle school: If you're not a socal conformist, just forget ever trying to socalize!

Okay, done... If you do reconsider, you know where to find us. If not, well, I guess I'll see you around the FA:S boards.
For what it's worth, I personally enjoyed having you around.

This is my one and only complaint about the new rules: they don't address the most important thing -- this.

Rudeness to other people?
You think people are bitching about cursing a lot... if we went after what we thought was people being rude... well... :fier:

No the old rules were fine, they just weren't well enforced. Are you saying you can't discern playful jabs from someone being berated?

Not sure where you got the idea I was saying, "Are you saying you can't discern playful jabs from someone being berated?".
What xhair did was make a playful jab, and goblin didn't like it. So, what do you mean when you say, "I'll agree with you their marty, they took away the naughty thread topics, but strangely enough people are still requesting bans."?

And I use the term insult loosely..

As I recall from the thread Gobbeh showed obvious signs that how people were responding to his thread was unpleasant, if not distressing. Hell, a little "be nice you guys" from the moderators probably would have helped. The way I see it was the only need for a change in how moderators operated was the increase in requested bans because people didn't like being mistreated on the forums. Of course you guys make the illogical conclusion that all interesting thread topics need to be killed, which made the forums a less likeable place and didn't address the real problem as we can clearly see here.

It's very possible that the mods didn't see what people were saying in those threads, since they can't be everywhere at once (I wasn't in those threads though, so correct me if you saw a mod reading those threads and doing nothing). Besides, there was nothing stopping you from telling people to stop being mean to Gobbeh either, if you saw it and didn't do anything about it.

Makai, honestly, how old are you? Last time I checked, it said 32 years old. Not 2 years old. You're way too sensitive man, how are you just gonna leave after a joke you didn't like? Do you know who much shit that gets said here that I don't like most of the time? We love having you here, but now you flip your shit because of something Crosshair said. You left the first time because of NewsBot, now you leave for a more stupid reason. :(
Just my two cents, we'll miss you though. Come back soon buddy :).

No shit. If Alex "Boss" Jordan wouldn't respect a ban request from one of the core team members because he was being disgustingly disrespected, then how do you guys expect to be treated any differently?

As active as I am here, I did not see it. Exactly as you said, we cannot be everywhere at once.

There's pretty much nothing that the mods can do with the old or new rules to make people treat each other in a more civil manner.
Any new rule is going to piss people off and drive so many more people away than the current "new" rules. But I think those would actually be worth it :lincoln:

Gob lives a difficult life. He just has a difficult time, probably more than most of us, and doesn't like coming to his one place of peace only to be insulted.

It's just that Gobbeh KNOWS we love having here. He could of easily solved this in a different matter, he didn't have to get a self-ban request. I KNOW Makai is smarter than that to let something so dumb affect him like that.

A lot of the insults lately are pretty ambiguous -- they can or can't be playful jabs or intended to really piss someone off. And nobody can tell. But the one who makes the insult, of course will defend himself, and so will his buddies.
It's somewhat like real life.

Actually, the first time he left was well before that, when several people made fun of him in a similar way (something about how his parents were physically weak and they mistook that for him). Gobbeh is quite sensitive, so lots of us generally go out of our way to be nice to him.

Nonsense, we proposed a number of ideas for the OTF ranging from increased moderation to eliminating it. My prefered course of action was to move it to a domain of it's own where the OTF could be catered to. The "rule changes" were the very minimum, if not below minimal, changes we asked for.
And btw, the motivation for the "new rules" were not so we can view the pages at work or because we found the discussions to be offensive. The motivation was to provide an environment, which is associated with project, to better reflect on the game and the team as a whole as well as to help bring the focus back to the project itself.

To be honest, I kind of like the idea of giving the OTF it's own place. It could be the official unofficial authorized bootleg copy of the official OTF. :ninja: I wonder if one could transfer all the accounts and rep and stuff to another forum...

Yes, it's possible to copy the DB, however, as I understand it, another domain would require another vbullitin license.
As for the issue of people being mean to each other, you're never going to please all the people all the time. While it would be nice if we could, as moderators, we're just supposed to maintain a level of civility conducive to discussion. We're not superheros, we're not omniscient, we're just people, and we do what we think is best at the time.

To bring focus back to the game/team, wouldn't it be more reasonable to become more active in the game related areas? It's kinda hard to focus on the game related areas when there's nothing new to talk about and nobody pushing a dialog.

You're kind of preaching to the choir here. I know your just people, but the one place on this forum that was interesting in the gap between a release isn't active in it's typical humor anymore. :(

The individuals trying to bring focus back to the game/team are the same individials who WERE very active in the game related areas.

Olah, the general feeling I got from tard was "Fuck the people that've been the only active posters on this forum because they scared my friend away. I'm better than all of them because I'm a coder."
That's the face he put on things in public. Slamming the mods, slamming the posters and basically slamming anyone that wasn't a coder on the team.
As for being disrespected, you earn respect, its not given. He didn't earn it. He came in hostile and was treated in kind.

Even so, how would you expect to bring focus to the game related areas by simply crushing the other areas? There would either need to be more content or more direct input from devs to keep things chugging along, and even then, I don't think it would be too long before inertia sets in. Without a mod to play, there's very little that can really be said, hence the drift to the off topic areas.

Heh, funny. I see it as respect is first given and then may be lost. To suggest that someone isn't worthy of your respect until they do something to earn it is horrible. If this wasn't the case, there would be one less reason for "new rules".
What does Tard have to do with any of this? The hostilities with Tard is irrelevent.
-edit- SomeDude, you are missing the point.

Not how it works there buddy. You start with nothing, then you either build it up or don't gain any. Not sure where this auto respect idea comes from.
You and tard, at least in my mind, were always working together and chatting together, you entered and left threads at just about the same time, and viewed the forums at the same time, I watched, and even jokingly commented that I bet you are the same person.
