Well, two temp bans in just over 12 hours for the same offense is pretty clear that you shouldn't be doing it. I'd imagine that third strike will be the straw the broke the camel's back.

Eh... not really. The way bans work now, last I was informed, was by powers of 2. So, next would be a month (because there is no 20 days). Then 2 months, then 4.. and so on.

It gives people a chance, to realize their stupidity. But if he did something like post someone nude spread eagle or something, then it would be perm.

That's a retarded ban system IMO. Bans should just be based on the degree of the offense and (depending on the user) past history. In this case it's justified, but going by such a system for everyone is retarded.

In practice it's treated flexibly; minor offenses follow the powers of 2 pattern, but somone who got up to a 2 or 4 month ban would likely just be permabanned, and if the initial offenses are great enough, we can opt to move straight to permaban.

we have to be a little flexible and lenient cos many of our "rule abiding" forum goers break rules from time to time, often when they are staging yet another of their rebellions. If everyone who broke rules was treated according to the handbook we have then there would be very few people not banned at some point.

That was the reason for the initial ban... then he was an ass to wallrod or something in irc... I had enough of him.

Basically he was banned for flaming, and given a longer one because it was the third offense in only a few days of actual posting time. He came on IRC and argued that he followed the rules (which is plainly false), that we were being hypocritical by banning him and not others for much worse (i can't think of any cases where we haven't banned someone for saying 'You're still fat, stupid and ugly. Go crawl into a hole and die.' or worse), and that we were 'a bunch of fucking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥' (guilty as charged).

We basically figured that if he came back he wouldn't really 'contribute' (to use a PC term) and as such came to agreement that a permaban was in order - after the fact, he requested one himself.
