Indeed, it is awesome. Long have I cursed the hardcoded weapon limit. I'll be playin this for quite a while.
My one gripe is the 'reinforcement' system causes it to get way too hard, too fast. As soon as you take Drassen, stupid queen drops half a company on it x.X

playin the insane mode?
i've selected insane, but i've started with more money, so i could afford good mercs and weapons. (VSSK for the win)
a also tweaked some weapon's data, i.e. the barrett m82.
you can modify how many reinforcements are available for the queen and how aggressive she acts.

I was refering to the ability to bring in troops from adjacent sectors. It took me three tries to keep Drassen Mine.
The first try was on Veteran, with a fairly standard set of low-end mercs: Meltdown, Igor, Barry, and of course Ira, Dimitri, and the IMP guy. They had hit me at a bad time, I was low on cash, my merc contracts were about up, and they were sitting on my one source of income. We only had the basic assortment of pistols, plus an SMG or two, and the shotgun we 'borrowed' from Father John. I attempted to retake the sector by night (it worked well enough to take it the first time), but the milita I brought in as reinforcements caused the tactical phase to hit earlier than expected, so many of my mercs were out of position, pinned against a wall and fighting for their lives. And losing. After we were all dead, there were still two milita left, so the auto-resolve gave me a count of remaining enemies. It was forty eight.
Second try, I had started over and dropped the difficulty to novice. I had two IMP's this time (:D), but didnt feel like hiring anyone else. I also decided to dig in rather than try to retake the mine, and I ordered some fancy new weapons (an M16A4, a Calico, and a Kar98 (which cant take the Sniper Scope :gun:), plus ammo) as soon as I took the airport. I barely had time to train some milita and recieve my weapons, before they hit. When they did, I was out of position. One merc was near the mine, the other towards the middle of the sector, and Ira was on the north edge of the map. The hordes attacked from all directions before I could reassemble. Ira got gunned down first, by a soldier that somehow must have scaled the cliff that runs the north half of the west edge. Then the IMP towards the center, her hollowpoint-loaded Karbiner could knock one dead with each shot, but just wasnt fast enough. The other IMP was doing much better, knocking em down left and right with headshots from his reflex-scoped M16, so much so I found myself humming Ghost Love Score, and wondering if he could actually pull it off, when the game crashed. >.<
The third was a load of the previous, right after taking the airport and ordering the guns. I paid more mind in getting into a good position beforehand this time, though Pablo stole a good hunk of the HP ammo I had ordered. I had hoped to be able to train a second milita squad before they arrived, but wasnt, so my mercs were a bit tired. Despite this, however, I had a good postion on the roof of the central building (the one with two doors on the southwest side). The ensuing firefight felt like a re-creation of Mogidishu '93. Once again, the Kar proved deadly, killing with every hit, and rarely missing, but I only had one mag for the M16 (and it was AP to boot >.<), and no hollowpoints for the Calico or Ira's MP5K. They fell one after another, however, trying to flank from all sides at various times, and once making it up onto the roof (only to be mowed down by a burst from Ira's MP5). Before I knew it, turn based mode ended, indicating there were only a couple stragglers left, who were sumarily destroyed. I then proceded to hunt patrols and hit the SAM site, and am now realizing that the rest of the game is going to be way too easy, being set to Novice >.<
I'm probably going to use that game to figure out some of the fancy new items and accesories without worrying about costs or screwing up and dieing.

i just had a great battle of awesomeness against 126 (!) enemies.
i was giving them 20 round bursts from a m60, 3 shot bursts from the AICW 40mm, a few 50 bmg roungs and shitloads of other 7.62 and 5.56s.
summary: it was hard, i had to retry a few times, but the new weapons are fun.
i took drassen, the first sam and the eastern part of alma. by now i've spend 2.5 millions on equipment and payments for mercs.
stay away from bolt or pump action guns, they will give u a hard time when facing several enemies.

My merc team to start off (I'm busy clearing out Dassan airport or whatever it's called), consists of my IMP (stealth/auto with suppressed 93R), Ira (loaded with medical kits), Bull (98 strength FTW! and so cheap!), Igor (not impressed), Grunty (fucker is ACCURATE!), and Sidney (the MP5K adds a bit of range to the start and I like his accent).

snipers are more balanced (a shot every two turns with bolt action and 2 shots every three turns with DMRs)
Improved AI, different camos, molotovs.
there are still alot of guns to come with new patches (i'd guess we'll see 6.8 weapons in near future) :D

Me too. I hate russian translation, it kills all background atmosphere. and Ivan talking with wierd voice. Probably single char, whos localized voice I like more than original - it's Grizzly. And Hitman, but it's a good parody on our humorous actor. Some people think that "Russian" Ira have better voice too. IMHO - english Ok.

No, I prefer Bull, Grunty, Barry, Grizzly (when Available), Ira, Dimitry, Gamos (yeah, it's stupid, but shot precisely enough, plus - not expensive). My countryfellows - sometime:). Also I took Iggy, sometime Konrad, Fox:), Numb and Cougar (if I got enough patience to wait for them, cos other MERC personnel - BS. Even Gasket and Hobbit). Of course Shenk, Dinamo, Vince and Mad Dog. Final four carry some good accuracy rifles without autofire, till they got marks around 80. After that I give to crazies some MG and start to "rip the whirlwind":). And I'm too lazy to return to Omerta and took Miguel and Carlos. When I took 5 cities - I'm pretty sure, that I don't need their services.
If talk about IMP char skill - stealth/night or night pro. Anybody want to knew my stats?:)

Shadow is awesome. Especially with the patch, his C7 with ACOG scope is DEADLY.
Unfortunately he got caught with Raider and Raven in a blackhawk down style situation. The 3 mercs and 20 greenhorn militia were attacked at Drassen mine by 20+ enemies, including at least 10 elites. Raider had his MP5SD6, and Raven ran out of ammo for her SL8 and only had an MP5K that she picked up somewhere. I holed the two SWAT mercs up in a building and had them shooting out the windows, and they were doing a fair job. My militia managed to take out 2 elites and 4 veterans before basically being wiped out. Shadow was proning, just outside the door, headshotting incoming merc after merc. Unfortunately there were just too many, and one snuck up from behind and bursted him unconscious. Raider ran over and killed the other guy, but got killed by a shotgun, while they executed Shadow. In a last ditch attempt, down to 9 rounds left, Raven hid behind a sofa, and underneath a table, counting on her interrupts to save her. She took out 3 more before succombing to an AKM blast to the head.
Now I can't hire any more mercs :(

20 doesnt sound like much, unless thats just where you stopped counting :P The Drassen counterattack usually is 50+ on normal, and only gets worse on harder levels.
I find the best way to fight that counterattack is to wait for it in the sector immediately to the east of the mine. Camp out on the island and wait for em. You'll be able to go up against around a third of their force, but you'll catch at least half of that swimming helplessly >:3. You wont get as much good loot, but theres plenty more of that in the other groups. Curiously enough, it seems they wont attack after you've killed the force scripted to spearhead the assault, so you can mop up the rest as you will. Its worth noting, however, once the 'minor' attacks start coming, if the counterattack force is still hanging around, they WILL be called in as reinforcements. You should have time to mop them up, and/or heal and arm up before then though. I beat the Drassen counterattack on normal, with 2 IMP's, 3 low end mercs, and Ira (thought I added Dimitri before the 3rd group came in with a small attack group). I only bought 2-3 guns from BR as well (an MP5A4 and a Mini-14, and maybe a Calico M900).
I'm currently turning my eye to Cambria, I took one sector and pulled back (partly because I took a bunch of heat, having forgot to take of my night vision for a daylight battle, partly due to a realtime crash bug in the sector), and am looking to hit the next sector now, hopefully I'll be able to get some milita up before the AI realizes theres nothing stopping them from retaking the hospital...
In other news, if you run into badguys in a random sector, and you see 'beware of snipers...' in the lower corner...heed that well.

Yeah, I just stopped counting at 20, there were obviously more than that.
And Drassen is hard when you only have 3 mercs, and none of them are IMP, it suuuuuuuucks. Even though they were well equipped, 3 well equipped mercs is just going to give you a Blackhawk down "shughart/Gordon/Durant" scenario. Just not enough eyes and not enough AP's to hold them off. Whereas 6 mercs should be enough to handle it.

It was epic..... Drassen is a good place to do some BHD scenarios. Capture Drassen Airport, then order whatever it is that you need from bobby rays (A m21, MP5-navy and a C7 CTS would be a good start, along with ammo, and order SWAT helmet, pants and vest, with ceramic plate, night vision, and sun goggles.) Then, make two IMPs with specialty in "rooftop sniper" and either autoweapons, stealth, or camoflauge.
Then, go take Drassen Mine. Sit the three of them in a building, and wait for the attack. There's a good one in the center section of the map, southern edge, where I had my BHD experience. It's got 1 door, facing the top of the map, which enters into a hallway with some sofas and some tables/chairs. There is one window which faces the right side of the map that you can walk right up to from the inside, and a window facing the south/east side that you can also walk up to. There is also an interior door (maybe 2 I forget) that opens up to the west side of the building, where there are two windows facing the left side of the map but you can't walk up to them due to a bed and a sofa being in the way.
This building gives you a very strong position facing the right side of the map. The guy in the window facing right can kill a lot of shit coming from that corner. A guy in the door, prone, facing right can kill anyone coming from the north or east. Eventually enough of them will get through that the guy at the bottom window will be getting some action.
It's tough to do with 3. 4 might be doable, but that would be tough to.

thanks for the advise. i'll try that. +repped
but generally i meant a whole mod, with a target building map, a map for each of the downed blackhawks, several maps being the mogadishu mile and finally a Aidid assasination map.
other maps would represent minor scenes from the movies (fight in the streets) or maybe even mission from the DFBHD game (river raid, radio aidid comes to mind) or even completely "self-designed" missions (taking the airport).
of course this would be a shitload of work to do, and i'm definately not the person to do that.

Some helpful info:
1. You can disable the Drassen Counter Attack. It will probably be disabled by default in future releases. Look for JA2_Options.ini file in \Data-1.13 folder.
2. Only 6 IMPS can be made so far. This may change soon, but right now, you can only have one for each of the 6 voice sets.
3. There are many more options in the INI file, I recommend that everyone take a look before getting too far in the game. Some options do require a restart though.
4. Reinforcements work both ways, you can take Militia with you. If they are in the same sector and you attack a nearby sector, you should be given the option of bringing them to the fight.
5. If I remember correctly, Sal does eventually get your shipments correct. So if you get him, lose a bunch of cheap ammo shipments and when he starts getting the correct, then order your big shipments.

Okay, I received my shipment of JA2 Gold.
Initially, I had trouble going from 1.12 to 1.13. I had a crash error due to some of the weapons & ammo not being recognised (Beretta 92FS, 9x19mm Ball 15 round).
I reinstalled the patch, and this somewhat corrected the problem.
From then-on-in, I had a fucking ball. This is exactly how the game should have been from the word go. It's fluid, dynamic and very enjoyable.
I'm on my way to creating 6.8 SPC calibre weapons now. I'll let you know of my progress, and when I have some working weapons & ammo, I'll release them.

I prefer Urban Chaos (http://www.fileplanet.com/135355/130000/fileinfo/Jagged-Alliance-2:-Urban-Chaos). Too bad some of the voice acting and such isn't finished.

Try JA2 1.13 + Urban Chaos.
Compatability is there for it, according to the unofficial patchmakers.
