Ok my C: just went from 300 megabytes, to 40, to 20. What's wrong? I haven't downloaded anything or installed anything to it. In fact I just deleted some stuff. What should I do? There's nothing on here I can get rid of really.
And if I get some DVD-Rs can I put music on them as storage and then format my hard drive and then put the music back onto my hard drive from the DVD-R?

You can try turning off your System Restore. IIRC you do something like right-click on My Computer, then go to the System Restore tab, then turn it off. It saves plenty of space. You can also run a defrag and Disk Cleanup, those should clear up more space. I'd also check to see if a virus is downloading shit onto your comp (Purrol does that), or if someone else has been using your comp as well.
You can use DVD-Rs if you want, the method you suggested works well. But a long-term solution would be to buy a second HDD.
-e- One more thing you can try is to compress your C drive; that gives it more space, but it runs slower if you do.

I use DVD-RWs for backup but first did you at least run disk scan to check for errors and also defrag.
That is the extent of my computer knowledge :(

Clean your recycle bin, and turn off your computer. Maybe something is fucked up, just try restarting.

Scan for viruses?
