The multiplayer demo for the Battlestar Galactica indie game has been released
http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3502
by all indications from the videos, this thing looks to be frakking sweet.
I'm currently running about 231kb/s on the torrent
Be sure to read the 1.7 Multiplayer steps to get up and running

It's okay so far, but nothing mind blowing yet. First level has too much chit-chat and not enough action, and the second level is impossible to beat. You have to blow up asteroids to prevent them from hitting a mining ship. Problem is there are about a million asteroids rushing towards the ship from every angle and it's impossible to destroy them all.

Ok just beat the demo, that was fucking awesome.
The flight controls are incredible, and I love how you can actually pull off the shit they do in the show. I had a Cylon on my ass, so I turned on glide mode, swapped end for end, and while going full blast in one way, I was pointed the other way blowing him out of the sky :D
The final fight is against a veteran Raider named Fractal. It was an INCREDIBLE fight. The AI is rediculously good at flying. I couldn't get on his tail, so a couple of times I baited him by letting him get on my six then doing the backwards fire thing, but he was actually smart enough to fly OUT of my line of fire while I did that. It was nutty how he finally died. I did not shoot him down. He slammed into an asteroid while we were dogfighting. I slammed into it too :P He died, I limped away.
It was one of the best moments I've ever experienced in a space flight sim game. If they completely revamp the fucking game menus, which are horrible, and keep up the quality of missions like the one I experienced, and got some better voice actors...this will be one hell of an indie game.

Gliding is your friend.

Gliding is your friend.
? How would gliding help in such a situation? There are always asteroids where I can't get to them (such as right in front of me, but behind the ship), so I pretty much can't prevent it from being pummeled away. How did you beat it?
Also, what I don't like about Freespace is that there are just way too many useful controls to be intuitive.

I pretty much did an orbit around the middle of the monarch and glided to acquire asteroids while orbitting on my merry little way. When the Cylons came the Monarch was at 85%.
I am using a joystick, which allows really insane maneuvering compared to the mouse.

There is an orbit function?

Yeah. Pull up on the stick :P Okay I guess I didn't so much as orbit as make a really chunky tetrahedron around the monarch. Or something.

What? Then how do you maintain a constant orbit PLUS glide?

Yes, but what you're telling me is you're doing an ORBITING GLIDE?

If this doesn't explain it, then I give up.

If I get a new comp, I might consider getting a joystick to play this with. Plus, I could use it with Mechwarrior 4 too :D
