I've been reading through a few stories about people who have been in situations where they could fight and flee and usually either hide, or flee.

It got me thinking about something that happened to me.

Now, not long ago I got into a fight with this guy who wanted to go out with a friend of mine. He was a total nutjob, one of those guys who's always doing the crazy shit, drugs and booze at the age of twelve, trying to fight teachers all that sort of stupid shit. So naturally I told her he's a psycho and if she's not interested and he keeps pressing her, let me know and I'll deal with him.

He came up to her when I was taking a piss (big house party btw,) and asked her if she wanted to do something some time. She politely declined ( I say that, for all I know she could've told him to fuck off.) and he got confrontational. Saying stuff like "how come, I really like you, you'll have a good time just give me a chance" like really desperate stuff. In his defense he was drunk, and stoned, but fuck him.

So I walked down the hill and see her uncomfortable and looking for an out, she just walked away from him heading off to my right to go to where her friends were. He yelled out "FUCK" and went to walk after her, but I stepped in front of him and said "you right, buddy?"

He went to push me out of the way but I just stepped back making his attempts to push me anywhere useless. He got angry when I stepped in front of him again and we threw down.

Long story short, I'm sober, he's stinking drunk and high, I basically tackled him and punched him round the head a few times.

A few weeks later I heard from someone he was friends with he'd been talking about wanting to fight me, big deal, my attitude towards people on here isn't a whole lot different to real life, a lot of people want to hurt me.

Anyway. A few weeks later I'm on my balcony while parents are away on hols and my sister's at a friends house. I'm just having a smoke and a beer when I see a couple of guys heading down the street to a house party, I recognised them as old boys of the school i went to and yelled out to one of the guys, being mates to say hi and then I realised he (the fucker) was there too.

He stepped on to the road yelling aboose and hurled a bottle at my driveway sending glass everywhere.

I walked off the balcony back inside, downstairs and out the front. He's halfway down the street by this time. Standing in a pair of short and a singlet I yell "I'm not going anywhere, you cunt, get the fuck back here"

I'm not going to say what happened next cause it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious, how many people think they'd react the same in that situation? There's been times I've pussed out and bolted rather than decided to fight in the past, but more often than not I want to test myself. Is anyone else like this?

I'm a bit of both - most of the time I'm meek and mild but some people really make me stand up and ask them if they want some. Especially if dickheads are hassling women, like in your case.

I tend to laugh at confrontational people because I'm the better man by not going there. I do kind of wish to take someone on that doesn't have any fighting experience like myself, just for some fun.

Only if I have to and it's absolutely 100% neccessary.

I've only had to do it twice, really and it was in defense of friends who were unable to defend themselves.

I don't even talk. I just start throwing punches.

It's not the "I'm cool and violent" or "I like to take em by surprise" -- I have probably gotten into 3 fights in 10 years (thats right, since 11).

Thing is, when in a high stress situation like that, what happens is I can't think of anything to say and I just instantly calculate in my head

Fight or run fight or run you gotta fight or run, well too late to run now, just throw a punch you dipshit!

Most of the time though it ends in

Oh well the situation ran itself out, thank god you kept your mouth shut or your fist back

Only three times it didn't resolve itself :p

Sounds stupid.

The first time sounds reasonable.

But the second time? Try and talk to one of his friends before seeing him, tell him why you did what you did and that you didn't actually want to fight him or anything, and that you meant nothing by it. What's the point in keeping this relationship with him if it just keeps getting you two hurt?

meh, you arent the only one who's like that. If someone harasses a girl (be it a girl im friends with or one i just know) and im around to deal with it, i will. If i knew i could take the fucker and he chucked a glass bottle at my house, i would go after him, and use his face to pick up said broken glass. and no, not because im hardcore, but because there are things you just dont do.

I don't even know where to begin on how shitty the logic of "oh there are some things you just don't do!" is, so I guess I'll just say it's dumb and grow up.

Would saying "There are some lines that if you cross will put you in a world of hurt" make more sense? Accepting people's insults isn't a way of going through life that I would enjoy. Of course you have to know when it's futile to attempt physical conflict. That's common sense (I hope). Standing up for yourself isn't something that should ever be looked down on though, or thought of as dumb.

Yeah, but think of how many people put that line at "touching my car" or "saying something about my mother" and how retarded that is.

I can be very confrontational, but I'm also a wuss, so it's a bad blend. I got into trouble a lot through high school for being unwilling back down.

I have to be on my best behavior for final year, though. And no fighting in university. Though all those assholes that I went to school with will most likely never go anywhere near university, so I doubt it will be a problem.

uhm, go fuck yourself colon. you are implying that I wait for people to do minor things before starting a fight, which isnt the case. if someone gives me shit, and then pushes thier luck and eventually decides to do something stupid (i.e throw a glass bottle at my house and shout insults at me begging me to fight him) then that counts as something you just dont do, because clearly that someone wants me to fight them, and by violating my home and slandering my name, it sort of pushes me over the edge.

I dunno about you guys, but most girls I know can handle themselves and most guys i know don't hang out with jerks like that.

I've only ever gotten into two fights, one in 7th grade because a kid hit me (he had "anger issues", which is bullshit, i don't care). The other was at a protest.

I didn't know what I was doing the few times I actually fought

I lost once (I was a pussy and ambushed this guy from behind, but he STILL turned around and kicked my ass -- he was a black belt in tae kown do, but still :(). And the other two times nobody really won (typical for most that I've seen, actually)

Then I learned how to fight and never got in one since. Not because I took one of those martial arts that say "avoid fights blah blah know your power blah" or whatever pacifistic thing they say.

It's because I turned to boxing and finally figured out how vulnerable I really am :p. I THINK I can fight now, but I'd rather not because it'd hurt like a bitch to win.

I've been in uh... maybe three fights. First time, sixth grade, a guy was having it out with one of my friends. I rode up in my bike and was just checking the scene out. Yeah, he was my friend, but I usually let people deal with hardships on their own, unless they specifically ask for help. Then the dumb fuck fighting my friend decides to involve me by pushing over my bike and saying, "And there's your friend's bike!" I had taken off my helmet already, so I responded by stepping forward and swinging it at the guy's head. I then dug my nails into the back of the guy's neck and took him to the ground. I got up, put my helmet on and rode off, while he lay there, writhing in pain. Some random fucker's dad ran out and gave me some kind of lecture on being a bad influence, then I broke out in a heat-induced nosebleed on the way home.

Second time, same friend I came to the aid of said some shit about my mom, so we scuffled for a minute, and I ended up tearing his shirt. There were no hard feelings afterwards, but I didn't really hang out with the guy much after that.

Third time, freshman year of high school, I was having a friendly chat with the girl I'd been obsessing over since sixth grade. Some hyperactive sophomore was throwing rocks from the top of the hill at us. I yelled some shit, he yelled some shit, she just kept walking. He came down, I was like, "What the fuck, dude?" and he came out of nowhere with these little jabs to my midsection. My thought process at this point went along these lines:
1. "What the fuck?"
2. "This shit doesn't hurt. Is he serious?"
3. "Oh my god, what if he's some kind of kung fu master? Is he going to paralyze me by hitting pressure points?"

I then promptly boxed his ears with cupped palms, and he went to the ground.

Man, if I ever got in a real fight, I'd probably get my ass handed to me, but that's never really made me want to back down from a confrontation. The fact that I'm so skinny has probably saved me many times from guys that don't want to end up putting me in the hospital, or something.

I hate the idea of getting hurt and I hate the idea of hurting anyone over stupid little things, but sometimes I get so angry, that I

continue talking shit and being insulting and a jackass in general that the other guy has no choice but to attempt to kick my ass in order to regain "honor"... I'm somewhat decent at pushing people's buttons.

Then after I realize I trapped both of us, I shut up and get ready to take a swing.

And that, ladies, is how fights almost start. :p
