So I had over 88 hours worth of vacation time saved up since when I was working full time (I went back to school so that's no longer an option) and never took a day off last year.
Well my supervisor told me that his boss wants me to take some vacation days, so I asked if I could take the month off due to exams and projects (it was hell week at school). He said sure and threw some extra hours on to round out the week.
So I get a call last Sunday from him, apparently my department is leaving the call center I work on May 4th and that we're suppost to start training for the new campaign that is coming in to replace it. However, the training classes (that will last for 6 weeks) only happen during the day, which I can't do since I have classes. So essentually I have lost my job because no one bothered to tell me that it was leaving until a day or two before it actually happens.
I talked to the department head and he said that they're going to find me a new job in one of the other departments, but since most of their training happens during May, it will probably not work out.
Do you think I should just formally quit (I'm still in the system), and look for a job for the summer, or wait to see if they can find me a new job? As it looks now, it doesn't look good.
Someone suggested that I go on welfare and try to get a severance package from the bastards.
