View Full Version : Internet issues. PACKET LOSS?

I've had this issue for a very long time. I have wireless internet, and I run through a router. My router is downstairs hooked up to a "special" line for the cable modem. I have it setup correctly and everything, but I get massive packet loss. Now matter what I am doing online. If I play any game, such as Counter-Strike, FA, Lineage II, anything, I get a "pause" every few minutes or so. I went and "pinged" www.yahoo.ca and www.google.ca through CMD Prompt, and I set it so it would keep pinging until I stopped. I averag a ping of 70-90 but, as I said before, every few minute it shoots up to 2,000-3,000 and stays there for 15 seconds. This even sometimes shuts off my internet or slows file downloads.
Is there anything I can do? I'm 100% sure I have everything setup right, I can deal with this but it is really, really annoying.

Ping your router with (Example: "ping 192.168.1.1 -t") .. see if it drops any packets.
That will narrow it down to cable modem or wireless issue.

It only spiked to 688 there....even I see that with my wifi, run it longer see if it spikes as bad as you've seen before.
If it does, then its an issue between you and your router.

Spiking that high coulda just been during packet transmission...
Hmm, nevermind just ran a ping with 1ms time... started a large fast download... and really no change... the highest spike when I Canceled it was 24 ms...
So Im thinking its a connection to your router issue. What kind of signal does it say you are getting? Strong? Weak? Do you have cordless phones and/or florecent lights in the house or near any of your equipment?

connection: very good
I have.. a cordless phone yes, but i switched the frequency, because it was interfereing. pick up the phone, internet shuts off. but i switched what the router transmits, and what my card picks up and i spike usually 1k-2k. that 600 was low
