View Full Version : I think my keyboard is starting to flog up

You see, at time when in-game, it acts as if I hit a key that's nowhere near where my hand is
Just to note, this KB is a "gaming" keyboard, with a seperate section (sorta like a keypad) with gaming-specific controls (Arrow-type keys that are "seen" as normal keys WASD when typed, weapon keys "seen" as #'s 1-0, etc)
EXAMPLE: Last night, playing ET, I did a "radio bind" requesting ammo twice. This is the "N" key. A key that, in the "Gaming control" area doesn't have a button that's "seen" as the N key (a good 6 inches from my closest finger , left thumb, and my other hand was mouseing)
So, as my KB seems to be starting on a downhill slope, I'd like reccomendations for a KB that is:
1: Durable - Lasting up to 2 years of daily use in virtual combat situations
2: Cheap - Costing, at most, say, $30
3: Not some overpriced, fancy-buttocked "improve your game and be 1337" thing that'll embarass me in my favorite server by making our field ops rush over to me to hand me ammo out of the kindness of his heart then cuss me out 'cause I don't need it piece of bovine fecal matter.
Oh, and just in case you're curious, this is a Zboard Merc (http://www.ideazon.com/us/products/mercgamingkeyboard.asp)

Unless you want some kind of gaming keyboard, just get the Logitech Classic Keyboard. It works like a keyboard should and it's about as durable as they come. I got it for like $12 on Amazon.

Sounds good.
Thanks, I'll check them out tomorrow when we go to the office store to get printer ink.

Thanks for the reccomendation.
Right now using an oldish MS KB I had when I got the gaming KB (Damn you, F-Lock key!)
I was thinking logitech for KB anyway, because every logitech mouse I've owned worked like a dream, and for more then 1.5 years.
Couldn't get one today when ink shopping :/ (Too many ran empty all at once to budget in a KB, too) but I'll check out the reccomended KBs later in the month.

I'm a little higher-end. I've got a G11 at the moment - going G15 in the near future. That would seem to be out of the price range :(

Yup. But if money were no object...
On a related note, have you guys seen those new logitech mice that are being made? The ones that boast of super fast scrolling? I looked at a display model, and I don't think I could EVER use one of those. One gentel finger push on the wheel, and I'd cycle through my weapons 5 times before finally stopping on one.

I tried one of those. They're certainly not meant for gaming.

Get an oooold dos-era keyboard. A reliable brand. I have me here what is apparently made by a defense contractor. I assume this keyboard was made around the time computers were mostly science and military tools.
It's large and built like a rock. It also has excellent key placement. There are standard keys from the number pad to the function keys and the like. It's so old the bottom part of the main pad only has alt, ctrl, and space. There are no windows keys or that other useless crap.
I got it around the time my old modern keyboard started acting up the way yours did. I went to my storage and dug it out of an old box of computer parts my uncle gave me -- he was a defense contractor, so that might explain the origin. It had an old interface that I had to get a converter for so that it could fit in a ps/2 socket. I bet you could find the keyboard and the converter if you browsed around Salvation Army or Goodwill thrift stores.
I tell you man, it's bootiful.
