Not gonna lie, banning someone for saying that is pretty ridiculous. There's nothing illegal about saying that, not even in Maricopa County, Arizona, especially given the context of the conversation.

Following the law is noble.

Following its spirit but exceeding its letter is a bit... I don't know, but it's not good.

quoted for illegal substance smoking truth. He even censored it FFS. I like how you can talk about killing or argue that psycho's Grandfather is a murderer (murder happens to be illegal in Arizona) but you can't say blunt because it's a reference to an illegal drug. I can't discuss drugs or substances that are illegal in the county where the server is based, but i can discuss and argue about a captial crime that is illegal in the whole country. Goddamn, this is some LUCKY esque shit right here.

The gunpowder, treason, and plot,
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

So when you little girls have finished bitching you may care to hear about the reasoning behind the ban that someone else issued against towelie.

rule: no drug talk

context: towelie doesn't seem to absorb repeated warnings

desired outcome: us mananging to issue a temp ban without the free speech activists banging on about it?

Sorry guys, I'm with the admin/mod team here.

Our stance on narcotics.

This a PG-13 forum for the primary purpose of talking about WorldatWar which is a HL2 mod featuring graphic violence. Thus there is a certain amount of leeway for talking about military, guns and other related aspects.

However we are not here to encourage or discuss drug use. We don't care if its legal where you are, if it's a narcotic, don't discuss it.

Clarification to prowls post above: If it is illegal in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA, it's illegal on the forums. That means anything that violates a federal law, an arizona state law, or a maricopa county ordinance, is unacceptable on these forums, narcotics or otherwise.

This is pretty clear.

Dude, just sm*** a ***nt as soon as you wakeup every morning.
This is a blatent disregard for the rules of these forums. Towelie is advocating the use of an illicit drug, one which is against Maricopa County law.

Again, the use of illicit substances is likely illegal in Maricopa. However, does the suggestion, in jest, that a person use marijuana to treat a medical disorder break the law? It's not unheard of for people to use marijuana to treat certain kinds of chronic and painful medical disorders. What Rabbit has sounds like its painful.

See its all about perspective. One could reason that Towelie was advocating druge use simply for the sake of drug use just as much as one could reason that he was saying that marijuana might help Rabbit be able to deal with his situation.

This is ignoring the fact that this also isn't that big of a deal and probably didn't merit a ban in the first place.

Which is still illegal drug use.

We all knew this was a rule - no illegal drug talk. For their part, the mods have been pretty lax about enforcing it. Towelie (people besides him as well) talks about illegal drug use all the time, so it's not so unfair when he gets a 1-day ban for it.

You dont even know what i said. sm*** a ***nt could be sniff a grant. If the kids reading these forums are smart enough to figure out what he censored, they are probably already out smoking this shit with their friends anyway!

High horse? Dude, I don't make the fucking rules, I just decide to follow them. It has been written in plain fucking english that there is to be no talk about the use of illegal drugs. Plain and fucking simple.

Your censorship arguement is just the same as the whole deal about the "N" word(s). Although it will be censored, it is still against the rules and is dealt with accordingly.

I think it is you who should get off their fucking high horse and adhere to the fucking rules, or if you don't like them, piss off and take your bat and ball with you and play with someone who likes your rules.

There's no requirement for you to post here, but when you do, and by accepting the terms and conditions of using this board, you accepted to follow the rules. Plain and simple.

Get the fuck over it, it's 24 hours. Big fucking deal.

Alright now that I'm back I'll just say that I'm not upset, because I was given several warnings in the past.

I honestly thought that censoring 80% of the letters in the phrase, in a thread about drugs, would've given me the benefit of the doubt.

(im being sarcastic, things in this place seem to be a bit out of control, its a bullshit reason to ban someone when he attempted to censor it anyway.)

how about from now on, whenever we say, "Go relax, REALLY RELAX", with the last part in all-caps or underlined (go relax, really relax). We mean that the person ought to ;) really relax ;)

Sodomy isn't illegal.

I'm all for using marijuana. It's my opinion that it's a harmless substance and should be legalized. As such I see no harm in advocating its use.

Wallrod

I understand the thought behind censoring it, but the entire point of writing, censored or not, is to put across an idea. Whether you do that in a round-about way or directly doesn't really affect the core message itself, short of tacking on an 'i probably shouldn't say this openly' clause. It's not a very clear cut case, and that's why it was a very short ban - an important point, because people seem to be reacting to this as if we're saying 'WE'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR SHIT GO AWAY' instead of 'seriously, please don't do that', which wouldn't have been at all if there were no similar problems in the past. If anyone wants to complain about stated rules being acted upon, with case-by-case consideration and find that reproachable, i don't really know what to say other than take it or leave it.
