Despite me going into the options and telling it to allow NT Kernel & System, it's still blocking a lot of the incoming and outgoing... things.

Incoming allowed: 104
Incoming blocked: 186
Outgoing allowed: 1246
Outgoing blocked: 25452

What the hell?

Why do you want to allow it?

Because I was under the impression it's a necessary process.

I dunno.

Mine recently, yesterday, tried to connect to the internet. I've never seen it do that before.

I also keep telling it to not show me the message that it's blocked, but it keeps showing it. What the crap?

Yeah, Sygate is dumb like that. Are you using 5.5, too?

I wonder if they fixed that whole drwatson eating up your memory thing?

This isnt a fix... but a suggestion, have you ever considered just using the free version of zonealarm? Its excellent.

i am, and ZA also occasionally blocks stuff and gives you no way of preventing it

eg. play on a HL server requires you to add the server as a trusted IP first, and even then it will occasionally block UDP requests from the server

The only thing I hate about Sygate is if you load a program that requires a connection, sygate will block it automatically, which will sometimes cause my programs to stall. Then I have let the program have access, close the program, and then start it again.

That doesn't mean it needs to have access to the internet. I have mine blocked and it has never attempted to access to the internet nor recieved connection attempts.

Just go into options and select "hide notification messages."

I don't like zone alarm, at least if sygate fails to start properly I can still connect to the internet.

It may be inconvinient at the time, but I like to know which of my programs are trying to send information and why. If they aren't an internet application and they're trying to grab a net connection without my explicit consent to, I like to be able to block them. If they lock up or stall because they don't have a net connection, I'll usually end up dumping them because I consider it a crippling program defect.

Oh so do I. But it's a pain to have to open hl, give hl access, then have to close hl because it won't let me go into any IPs, then reopen hl and go back.

Then again, you should only have to do it once per program.

Normally, but the other day sygate seemed to erase it's records of everything I was allowing so I had to go through every program again.

Anytime I upgrade ZA I have to go through everything again.

I've never had that problem.

From my experiences with Sygate and ZA, I will always choose Sygate. ZA is annoying as hell, and that denying of internet crap is really unnecessary.
