View Full Version : Thoughts on the rules, and possibly relaxing some?
StandingCow
October 5th, 2007, 12:18 AM
Ok guys, as you know, waw is not going to happen, so I felt that some of the rules are no longer needed, as there is really no image to keep up.
Some of the rules are going to have to stay, such as discussion of illegal drugs, etc. But some of the now silly rules like no drawn penises (LOL you guys love to do this) and cursing in thread titles/posts (although it still cannot be extreme) should be done away with.
So, let me know what you all think, what can we do to make this place more fun for you guys.

good fucking riddance
EDIT: rules I think should be repealed:
1a. 1b should be rewritten to avoid porn, say draw the line at what could be shown on television. 5 is now irrelevant.
Others:
7 needs enforcing or it's pointless

Free pr0n and flaming plz?
StandingCow
October 5th, 2007, 12:32 AM
Hehe, no, flaming is still going to be against the rules, we don't want people being jackasses to one another, nobody likes that.
And no porn, except what MG suggested is doable I think, long as its allowed on TV, it should be fine.
MG, I don't check all sigs, if you see one that is out of line, let us know with the report button.

hehe, no, I Am talking about public television.

GusButts

There's softcore porn every night at 11pm on a public channel here man, you know, one of those channels that you have by default even if you don't have cable.

I agree with modest about 1A & 1B, though I think that the excessive swearing limitation could be scraped. What about 1F?
Since 3 is all but enforced couldn't we just say "Try not to be took much of an asshole"? Or throw it away all together?

I personally saw the rule against quotes in the sig as kind of being like zoning & clean-up laws for rednecks, they don't do much.

1. In the general case, posts should be at a PG-13 standard. This means:
a. Profanity is allowed, but try not to be excessive.
b. Sexuality
* i. Imagery: No exposed nipples, genitalia.
c. Violent imagery: no violent imagery depicting human corpses or excessive amounts of blood or gore.
d. Illegality:
* i. Casual discussions of drugs and intoxicants are discouraged. If you have something important that you'd like to discuss about these topics, use the Advice or Firebox sections.
* ii. Posting links to or trying to distribute copyrighted material is illegal, and very bad.
* iii. Do not post instructions on how to illegally modify real-life weapons.
* iv. Due to the terms of service from our host, all legalities are based on the laws of Maricopa County, Arizona, USA.
e. General nastiness: no posting imagery of things that are obviously disgusting, like human feces.
f. Racism and misogyny will not be tolerated in any form, in any forum, regardless of intent.
g. The Off-Topic Forum is our benchmark for the most that is acceptable: if it's not allowed there, it's not allowed anywhere.
2. If you have a question about the specific meaning of any of these rules, please ask a moderator first BEFORE posting something questionable.
a. Rules interpretations by the forum staff take precedence, and the interpretations of the administrators are gospel.
b. Some forums have their own set of local rules, be sure to read them.
3. Don't be a jerk to those around you. Unsupported ad hominem attacks are bad, and if you're going out of your way to be insulting we aren't going to tolerate it for very long. Also, if you're doing things that goad people into flaming you, stop.
4. COMMON SENSE:
a. Spamming is bad. This includes posts with lots of blank space, and things like spoiler ziggurats.
b. Taunting or misinforming newbies is bad. Be nice to them, they are part of the community now.
c. If a moderator tells you to stop doing something, stop doing it.
d. Reopening locked threads is bad.
e. Posting for people who've been banned is bad.
f. Recruiting for another mod using the WaW forums is just silly, and not good.
5. Temporary bans will occur if people are breaking these rules. If it becomes a serious problem, permanent bans will ensue. Bans are awarded in progressive levels of seriousness. Temp bans of varying length are used before permabans.
a. Forum staff can be found in #waw_admins on Gamesurge IRC if you have any questions, comments, requests or just generally want to chat. Also, if you want to point out things that we've missed or appeal a mod's decision, #waw_admins is probably the place to do it.
b. Do not register more than one account. Secondary accounts will be banned on sight, and abuse will lead to bans of the main account.
c. "Banned" means "we don't want to hear from that person on the forums any more," not "we're forcing that person to reregister because we want to be annoying."
d. If you are banned and you reregister without being given explicit permission from an administrator to do so, your chances of being unbanned are zero.
6. Sigs: Images in sigs are limited to 415x150 pixels. Filesize limit is 150KB. Please try to keep your sigs to a reasonable size.
StandingCow
October 5th, 2007, 09:38 AM

Hmmm, I am not sure that is doable, I would like to use FA:S's stance on this, "No exposed nipples, genitalia, or suggested sexual acts."but then we get the perennial problem of classical artwork. it's your call.
Since we are talking about rule relaxing. Is quote tags something that all of you would like to have kept out of sigs? As long as its not over sized is it ok?a) my point was that it either needed relaxing or enforcing, not that kelvin's was unreasonable
b) the idea of the rule was to prevent sigs getting too big - I always thought that setting a limit based on AREA and file size was a good idea. I used to warn people if it was taller than 200 pixels, had > 200k of files or was wide enough to cause my browser to need a scroll bar. quote tags aren't bad per se, but they do require more space than, for example, quotes as in my sig.
How is that? Anything else?5 needs to go, 8 is pointless. needs formatting, suggest using [list]
I don't want to allow personal attacks, nor talk of drugs.agreed on both those points.
EDIT: one other related thing - can we get rid on the limit on the number of carriage returns in sigs?

How do we define the difference though? What is art to some may not be to others... that is a tough rule to make and enforce.
a) my point was that it either needed relaxing or enforcing, not that kelvin's was unreasonable
Well, its no longer in the proposed rules list, so it is being relaxed. What about 1 quote per sig?

Huh?it may already be gone, but if you went to the user CP, changed your sig, but put more than 4 or 5 carriage returns in it, it refused to save

The reason I figured this needed to be done was because the forums have no real purpose anymore, there is no image to keep up since the mod is not happening. And that is the reason for the current rules, to keep a decent image.
