Well i got it and completed it. It was a pretty good game but its nothing special. Its basically half life mixed with halo mixed with silent hill.

Considering how heavily it channels System Shock, I was hoping for a co-op mode.

Well, I was hoping for co-op, or even some DM to extend the gameplay experiance. I mean, to me $50 is too much to pay for something I'll be done with in less than a week. If a game had some MP as well, it'd be worth the $50.
As it is, I'll be waiting for it to drop to $20 or so (Paying $30 for bioshock was more than I'd usually pay for a SP-only game... that's not, like, a console RPG that has hidden bonuses and extras to unlock after the "main" game)

Early reviews of the PC version indicate big problems with mouse responsiveness.
"This would have been a much more compelling horror game if not for the bizarrely sluggish mouse movement, which feels strangely slow and floaty. This is not a sensitivity issue, and occurs even in the main menu. You get used to it eventually, but it makes pinpoint-accuracy abnormally and unnecessarily difficult in a game that demands it more than the average shooter."

Well if i can complete the game using an xbox controller it shouldnt be too hard even with sluggish mouse movements.

Well, hopefully by the time it's $20, they'll have patched that out.
BTW, how is it's DRM? Just a CD key entry? do I have to "log in" when I boot it up? (Like UT3. They could've done like ETQW, only had you log in when you go to multiplayer...)

It uses Securom, as all EA games do at this point.
So basically, think Spore DRM.

Yay! Thanks, EA, Now I dan't have to worry about saving any money for Dead space, I can use it for a game made by people who aren't promoting piracy by using DRM that is oppressive!
(When I think Spore DRM, I automatically recall it's become the most pirated game in history...)

I picked up the PC version yesterday and it's a terrific game. The mouse controls were terrible until I turned off VSync, it seems to work great now. You can't spin 180 with a quick flick of the mouse, but I think it was intentionally done that way.
Securom or not, I highly recommend this one.

So how the horror factor? Does it have atmospheric horror like System Shock, or just abunch of boo shit?

I think it captured the System Shock feel. I went in with an attitude that I WANTED to be creeped out, and I wasn't disappointed. I don't want to spoil it, but the plot borrows a lot from "The Thing" by John Carpenter.
Lots of atmospheric creepiness, especially in the early stages of the game when you first board the ship. And some of the audio and video logs you find (similar to PDAs in Doom 3) are downright disturbing.

I didn't consider Bioshock scary in the least.
...well, the Little Sisters were kind of creepy.

It must suck going through life being afraid of everything then... Bioshock a creepy at first. Then you fight football players climbing walls by shooting bees at them and that fear quickly disappears...

Bioshock was scary, but not as scary as parts of Stalker with Oblivion Lost.

i just finished this.
its an amazing game, it felt a lot like system shock in places... and it has a great fear effect in many places too. the ambient sounds, and freaky as fuck messages left lying around help give it that creepy effect. oh, and certain scenes with some of the.. uh.. "survivors"
:(
okay in all honesty i shat my pants for most of the game and i had to play with my volume down because it was too fucking scary. :(! although it gets repetitive when you can sort of expect to have another attack launched at you the moment you complete a sub-objective. but, the graphics are good, the mouse (without vsync) is fine, the atmosphere is creepy, and the game overall is fun.
honest review? 7.5 / 10 for lack of multiplayer, but definite 8.5/10 for singeplayer aspect.

Honestly, I didn't find Bioshock scary. Creepy at times, odd at others, but noting in it made my ass spew masonry. (Which was what I hoped it would do). Hell, DooM3 gave me more (cheap) scares just from the "Monster jumping out at me going 'OOGA BOOGA'" effect. And all that really accomplished was making me aim off the monster a second.
Don't get me wrong, Bio-s was fun, but I was hoping for more of a "Show you got some balls and play it with the lights out at night" type game.
Anyway, what's some good "OMFG! I need dependz nao!!" games?
PS: Is that the animated DVD that I've seen Ads for, pope?
PPS: And whaddya wanna bet they make a live action movie from Dead Space?

Yea, I just started playing bioshock this weekend... it isn't very scary at all, as you said, certain parts are kinda freaky... but it isn't scary. Very fun though, and I love the atmosphere.
Doom 3 made me jump alot, but those are cheap scares.
Fear had me freaked out most of the time.

Oops, I meant to type "Anyway, what's some good free "OMFG! I need dependz nao!!" games?
'Cause if I buy any PC games before Xmas it'll be CoD-WaW.
Not that I think I will, but if I trip over a $100 bill that's one thing I'd do with it.

Fuck I hate this game.
I am terrified.
I knew shit was going bad when you first get into that little glass recieving room and everyone else is in the other room.
Then I had to run down the fucking corridor and those things jumped out and i was all OH NO YOU DIDNT and ran my ass off, and it tried to tear the elevator open and got pwnt, and I found a little pistol thing, and melee'd a thingy to death, AND IM JUST STOMPING ON IT AND STOMPING ON IT AND WATCHING ITS LIMBS FLY OFF BECAUSE I DONT WANT IT TO EAT ME IN A FEW MINUTES, ran down the hallway, saved and turned the game off because I DO NOT NEED THIS RIGHT NOW IT IS THANKSGIVING JESUS CHRIST
FUCK this game is like silent hill but without all the cool creepiness and with more of the "ARGHBLARGH WBWAAAARGH!!!1 WRAAAAA!!!!!" parts of Doom 3 and Event Horizon.
I love creepy but I do not like startled. I'll let shit build up and then get scared because thats like sex, theres a buildup and then BWAAAARGH AHHHHHHH I KEEP CUMMING AHHHHH!
In deadspace its like
IM CUMMING
IM CUMMING MORE
OH A VENT I SOME AMMO AHHH IM CUMMING
AHHHHHHH
I am so glad I rented the game because I am a huge vagina when it comes to games like this. I played the fuck out of system shock, system shock 2, and silent hill, because I can generally hear shit coming around the corner, and its more of an "oh shit, somethings there OH SHIT" instead of "god damnit, theres ammo, somethings gonna jump out at me I know it and because I know it it is true AHHHHH THERE IT IS AHHH KILL IT well that wasnt so AHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK

Well after beating the game you get some cool unlocks and you can replay the game with all of the gear, credits, and stuff that you ended with.
