Yeah I got malaria as well. The game is sweet. I was taken back with all the stuff you have to do, like un-jam a gun, heal yourself (which can be gruesome btw), fix the jeep, etc. Getting killed is really cool too, I was surprised when I died.

Its nice. Looks really good for the most part, most of the guns are pretty satisfying, the mgl-140 is 'loooool, 200 meters outside ur base, explodin yer doods' fun.
also, try skipping rpg rounds off the road so they hit under the oncomming jeeps, it blows them over the treetops :D
The story isnt terribly deep so far, but all the voice acting is solid, and the free-roaming is nice, even if I have to file a complaint along with the rest of the internet about the repetative respawing checkpoints and idiot-jeeps. Havent bought a sniper rifle yet, thats probably coming up in the morning, been rocking the MGL and PKM, but my MGL just broke for good..... i nearly wept.

No levitating jaguars or frequent crashing textures. Other than that, kinda, FC2 is waaay more immersive. I love the environment, hate the little checkpoints and random jeep assholes. I clear a checkpoint, it should stay clear, or at least the faction i'm working for should take it over.

I think I was sold on Far Cry 2 as soon as I found out there were no mutants, and that the gameplay revolved around being a mercenary stalking through African wilderness. I loved Far Cry for being able to run around the jungle with my suppressed MP5 and Arctic Warfare rifle, and then mutants showed up and ruined the game for me.

Waste of my time.
I bought the game. updated all of my drivers, directX, etc. installed the game. it would load up until i chose to start a new game. the moment i tried to start the game, it would get the the loading screen. the small loading logo at the top would spin, then freeze. the whole game would flash the blue screen of death, and restart my PC.
i listened to the ideas and solutions of the ubisoft customer support team, and they wasted 15 minutes of my time (it costs 30p per minute) and came up with no solutions to my problem. they say they have never seen or heard of this error, this is the first it has popped up.
i tried some beta nvidia drivers that they recommended, and this didnt work. it rebooted my system again after trying to start the game. and now, all of a sudden, my wireless adapter doesnt work, since that fateful restart.
so fuck it. i took the game back just now, suggesting they send it back to manufacturers. i would have exchanged it for a new copy to give ubisoft the benefit of the doubt.. but the retailer didnt have any in stock. it seems as if i got the bad CD. i cant be fucked to spend anymore money on this game. i really, REALLY wanted to play this as well. im so annoyed right now - ubisoft can shove far cry 2 up their ass right now as far as im concerned. and im not going to purchase it over steam either - they want £38.95 for it - £14 more than what i paid for an actual DVD version. fuckers.

It's simple why they called it Far Cry 2... because Far Cry was a popular game and they wanted to milk its popularity despite it having zero connections to the original game. The new one doesn't even have any connections to CryTek, the developer of Far Cry and Crysis. It's kind of bullshit that they used its name, although to be fair this game definitely looks fucking awesome. They could've named it This Game Is For Cocksuckers and I'd still play it.
I interacted with the CryTek development team several times back in my modding days, and they were really awesome guys. That's why it kind of pisses me off that Ubisoft is making money off of CryTek's name.

right. seems the team behind farcry 2 didnt bother to check if it worked with all audio chipsets. after my previous problems, and after support offering no hope, i started scanning the airwaves for any solutions. one guy suggested its got to do with audio acceleration. so i went into dxdiag and and disabled it. fired up Far Cry 2, and it worked. :s

I've had some crazy firefights in the game, running through a shanty town with a piece of shit shotgun I scooped off an enemy, running and gunning my way through the place, taking cover when I could and frantically trying to stay alive. Fighting the North Koreans on the hardest difficulty actually made you consider what tactics you want to use to take them out. It made the weapon customization a big part of the game, and using the Nanosuit to its fullest potential was key to success. Once the aliens show up, that's out the window, basically. I just used the alien chaingun thing, set the nanosuit to armor, and went on my merry way through the entire alien section of the game.
The Koreans used tactics when you fight them. Flanking, suppressive fire, grenades, etc. The aliens just fly around shooting at you until you shoot them down. Basically, it's the same problem I ran into with the Trigens in Far Cry.
I'm not saying it wasn't fun, but the game gets radically dumbed down once you start fighting the aliens.
I know it was in the gameplay trailers but I was hoping Crytek would avoid making the same mistake over again, as the Trigens in Far Cry were easily one of the biggest complaints about the game.

The gameworld is far too large for what's in it.
Miles and miles of jungle, savannah plains, etc, and it's pretty much empty. There's no patrols, no gunfights between the two factions. Just the odd jeep with a machine gun on it driving from point A to point B over and over.
For every checkpoint with the same 4 guys in it, there's ten times as much useless empty space. And no option to fast-travel IE Fallout 3 means the game turns into a pretty routine game of clearing checkpoints until you get to your objective, rinse, repeat.

Ok, I suck at this game and I need some help. First off I find that the mouse is really sticky. Not sure what I mean but it feels really unresponsive to aim, I move the mouse, the view will eventually follow but really quickly. It's like I'm moving in molasses.
So the problem this causes is that I can't take on a number of enemies at once or I get creamed. So, to alternate strategies. Since rambo is out, what do you find is the best way to take out an entire shanty town of bad guys (yes, I'm still on that early mission). The GL was fun but I ran out of ammo and it kept jamming so I opted for the G3K and the light machine gun. Should I stand off on a hill and pick them off with the MG? Or sneak in and cut some throats?
Also does attacking at night make a difference? i.e. less people around, etc.

First off, ditch the G3K. I'd rather take a shotgun over it, it jams like every 8 rounds, does fuck all damage. I hate that every african militiaman and his mom carry it in Act 1 too. If you can find yourself an AK at those early stages, hold onto it til the fucker blows up. For the shantytown, I tried to sneak my way if possible, using explosions to distract the guards while blasting others with the shotty, doing the objective and then getting the hell out of there. That town is a tactical nightmare, even when I had to go back later in Act 1 to do a random assasination I got fucked up there. I was so happy when I found an FAL though, it's the best AR imo.

How the fuck do I progress past 12% in Act I? Where do I go for main objective missions?
This is all tentative however until I get the game working again, I just installed the newest nvidia drivers and now it crashes to desktop upon launch. Fuck.

ok, I've pretty much stalled on the single player of this but I've spent hours farting around in the map editor. Yes, it's easy but making dominoes out of exploding barrels with cars placed on top of stacks of them is pretty fun. The long thin propane tanks also make good rockets.

just got the game and.... it wont run
fekin DRM, securom says some error about invalid release date or something. this is a legit copy that I bought and the only way i cna get the game to run is if i use a no-cd crack
DRM harms the consumer

This game sucks. It was fun for 5 days. Then I found out it was Assassin's Creed in modern day Africa. Only it sucked way more than Assassin's Creed. So repetitive. Currency system is awful. As for the weapons, they're horrid too. Graphics are amazing but that's about it. Quite disappointed with this one. Then again, like most Ubisoft games, it usually lets me down.

Yeah, it was fun for most of the first act, and I found renewed fun in the second, but now it feels an MMO girnding quests without any real reward or other players. urgh. I hate paying 50 dollars for games that get "good reviews" and end up being boring.

Okay, so I'm playing through the game right now. Luckily, I got it for free with my 3D card, and, really, that's exactly what it should be; for free. This game really blows. The AI is retarded (and can see you in the bushes from 500m away, while you have the camou suit), the fully upgraded guns don't last worth shit, and the currency system is bullshit. It takes wayy too long to go between places, and, frankly, I can't be arsed to kill people at the same checkpoints over and over again. There's a point where "free-roaming" is terribly bad.

It wouldn't be so bad if you had to travel across the entire map for missions if it wasn't for the fact you have to blast your way through every single damn checkpoint. The dev's got lazy and rather than code in NPC interaction they made everyone a baddie. I'd like to be able to talk to someone for once without being shot at.
I don't think I got even a quarter way through the first act before I got bored.

So I finally got this working (all it took was my old computer to completely die and get replaced with a new one! ... ) and I wish I would have read the thread first. Man is this monotonous.

I'm 63% through and I don't think I'm touching it again. Which is a shame because it has potential, but as everyone said, it feels like a job.

i do like the freedom in it, several ways I've killed convoys
1) running in guns blazing/lobbing grenades
2) hiding then launching an RPG at the truck
3) placing a line of IEDs over a bridge an waiting for the convoy to arrice
4) sniping the drivers as they appear in the distance
