Wasn't sure if this was covered in the Fallout help thread or not, but I deiced to dust off the Fallout1 CD to play and beat it, (then beat the game) and follow suit with Fallout 2 before F3 comes out in 2 days. My problem/question is, how the fuck does one make this ancient CD work with Vista? I DO own a LEGAL copy of the game from back when it was $9.99 for 1 and 2 in a pack. I know part of it is a compatability problem so I did all that, and now its saying there's an error with the "master.dat" file during installation.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me or know whats wrong with this shit?... Maybe an idea in side stepping this problem?

I dunno what's wrong with it, they both run fine for me on XP.
Also, you aren't going to be beat them both in two days. No way in hell.

I don't work until Thursday... and one time I watched season 1 of 24 in a little over 25 hours.
Each episode on that season was done in real time.
Your lack of faith disturbs me....
I might just have to get a not so legal copy... it shouldn't be against the law if I BOUGHT a copy that doesn't work right? Or is breaking the law, breaking the law? Advice before continuing.

You bought a copy. Any you download are for "backup purposes".

Too bad each episode of 24's running time is roughly 42 minutes, so if you really wanted to dedicate yourself, you'd have watched all 24 episodes in 16.8 hours.

With older games like that, I usually just run them in a virtual XP machine.

Well in any case, I've figured it all out and I'm good to go.
Downloaded it and its running fine now. Thanks for the help in any case.

Google no mutants allowed and check out their section of patches and stuff. There's a good expansion pack of stuff that wasn't included in 2 and you can fix almost anything with their patches.

Another few things that may help, that helped with me and Baldur's Gate is:
1. Run the program in compatability mode (duh0
2. Run the INSTALLER in compatabiliy mode.
3. Have both run 'by administrater' or whatever
