So aside from doing Zero Punctuation, Yahtzee also makes freeware games using the AGS engine. A few months back I was on a major freeware gaming binge, and I ran across 5 Days a Stranger. I had heard of it before randomly, and the word was that it was a well-made adventure game that managed to be pretty damn scary in certain parts.

I played it, and holy shit, they were right. This game and its sequels are probably the scariest games I've played in a long time, and the fact that they're all 2D sprite-based games is impressive. The game doesn't rely on cheap BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA scares as much as it introduces a sense of dread that steadily increases and spikes at certain times. I highly recommend you download this game and play it through.

I watched play-throughs of it and its sequels on Youtube. That alone made me shit bricks. AND THE MUSIC. OFUK.

Trilby's Notes is also worth checking out. :fier:

Is 5DaS the one where it starts off with him robbing a house but he gets caught it in? I played part of that but got stuck and never continued :(

That's the one. I think there was a walkthrough on the game's site, I remember I used it at one part where I had no idea what to do.

Got to Day three before my game bugged or something and Trilsby
wouldn't say he knew enough of the family to read the occult book and then find the corpses in the basement.

So instead I went and found a letsplay which wasn't half as fun but better than replaying the game. Overall, a very well made but short game. Too bad about the bug.
For some reason, the bloodied leather apron, knife and welder's mask really do make a pretty creepy combo. Especially in the first dream sequence.
