So, I've had JA2 uninstalled for a while now, glitches, dated graphics engine and sometimes funky damage model (I shoot a guy with a .50 Beowulf in the head, and he just flinches, but my mercs catch a 9mm in the leg and die) have kept me away from it, but I'm fiending for some turn-based tactical action. What games can I look for that will give me a similar experience?
Are there any games coming out in the near future like this? Is this genre still being worked on?

I'd say Silent Storm and Silent Storm - Sentinel are worthy additions to the genre.

I've been trying to remember the names of those games. Thanks.
But if I remember correctly, they're WWII themed with a weird sci-fi twist. I was looking for something with modern weaponry, though I'll definitely have to take another look at those.

X-COM? :p
I'm only half joking. It's even more dated than JA2 but it's still one of the best games ever made.

Freedom Force is kind of like JA2, but with super heroes.

All the old X-Com games are on Steam now...Apocalypse in particular is really good.
Provided you can get past the fact that they were made in the late 90's, they're great games.

Theres this weird, kinda shitty game called New Jagged Union, or something like that. Its supposed to be a 'spiritual continuation\hommage' to the JA games. I tried it, but uh, it just kept crashing for me. And, i dont remember it being turn based either.

Hammer & Sickle. It's on the same engine as Silent Storms and from the same makers. Spiritual sequel, you could say.
Also, Brigade E5.

Unfortunately it isn't very good, unless they managed to patch all the suck out of it.

Have that, couldn't get too into it. Just didn't seem Fallout-y enough.

Well, at least it wasn't Brotherhood of Steel.

I remember playing a demo for one set in a post-apoc wasteland. A lot of fans were hoping the studio would pick up the Fallout license. Think it was called Troika, or something.

Do you mean Van Buren?

BoS was a pretty good co-op game if you pretended it had absolutely nothing to do with the Fallout universe.

You'd think that would be easier to do, considering the content of the game. >:/

It was hard as a crap and sudden nuclear destruction if you made the wrong choise (by sudden, I mean enought time to overwrite several saves during the progress) wasn't funny :(

yeah, i needed to use a flowchart of the story to get anywhere in the game, since if you made a wrong turn at any point, the eventual outcome was pretty much always "you're fucked, the end"
