*bump*

I have tried it now. Really not that impressed for a follow-up to the original Red Alert. Sometimes it feels right, but often the singleplayer wasn't that great. Too much microing of the wrong kind partly because every unit has an ability, partly because you start to long for the ease of WiC. At the same time, the singleplayer is a little easy before the later levels. Often the difficulty comes from a surprise.

The videos were all much more RA2 than RA1. I feel they have lost the point about b-movies; the acting isn't supposed to suck and the movie is supposed to have escapism and charm. Less Plan 9 and more Barbarella/Evil Dead 3. And why am I briefed by someone only qualified to stumble around in the background with tea and biscuits?

IMO the soviet turrets look too much the same.

For now, 7 out of 10. The music worked, something they got right.

yeah it just didnt feel like red alert to me. sure, the chicks were hot, but for the most part this game lacked that... red alert feel. :(

they've tried to make it too cheesy, and cartoony in places. they should just go back to basics with RA1 and just modernise that.

I want to get it, but it wouldn't make much sense right now as I have two addictions... WoW and L4D. :/

I like it a lot. It's fun but definitely too cartoony and over the edge at times. Plus the "dynamic" music is annoying because I never hear anything good until combat is over. It's not dynamic at all give me back my music menus that you've conveniently glazed over AGAIN EA, twats.

Naval combat is far more awesome than it was in RA2 and buildings over water is really cool. The game is fast-paced and so long as you can counter an early rush, you can have a decent game. Still, I feel Tier 1 tanks are WAY too weak and I really miss my rhino tanks; the hammerhead is ugly as sin and just looks retarded. Oh yeah, fuck terror drones secondary; you can lock up a harvester in the beginning of the game and completely screw your opponent over.

I definitely think they overused "rock, paper, scissors" balancing in this one. And while each unit having a secondary function is cool for a while, it introduces WAY too much micro to the game.

Also, WTB the RA2 allied GI, not this stupid "shotgun and riot shield" crap.

Loved RA1, missed RA2, but enjoyed RA3. Not a fan of the secondary abilities but for the most part the games been fun. The cutscenes, while ridiculous, are like a carrot on a stick for me. I love being rewarded with them and they really keep me wanting to finish each scenario.

The FMV has always been one of the biggest selling points of the RA games for me.

Aha you got your dumb ass addicted to WoW again.

Dumbass.

Anyway, I've decided to give up on RTS since they're basically the same at this point.
