On July 29, 2008, Activision dropped World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, among other games from their productions, putting the future of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault in question.[3] Activision-Blizzard will not publish the game, but the game is not necessarily canceled.
On August 6, 2008, Activision Blizzard put up Massive Entertainment for sale.[4]

Massive got bought though by Ubisoft.
Somehow I question whether Ubisoft will want to keep Endwar and World in Conflict under the same parent.... My guess is that WIC would get the axe.

I would love to see a major Continuation to WiC, I dont think UBI is going to axe WiC, because IIRC they havent even set a release date for ENDWAR due to the major rash of piracy with pc games, I wish I rember the article which that was said, but that was the major reason ENDWAR wasnt released at the same time as it was on the 360 and PS3

So yeah, this game is pretty awesome when you have teammates who cooperate well and complement each other. Haven't quite figured out how to play infantry yet (some maps just don't seem very good for that role), but I'm having a blast with armor, air, and to a lesser extent support.
Wish more people used mics =/ But the in-game request/flag system is outstanding, easily the best of its kind I've seen. Makes it painless to coordinate without voice comm.
For that matter the in-game server browser, friends list, etc. are pretty polished as well. I haven't played an RTS/RTT since Homeworld (:o) but so far I'm really impressed with WiC's multiplayer interface. Wish there were more players, but I haven't had any trouble finding servers, as long as I don't mind playing with Frenchies and Germans

Fuck Air in that game. Ruins epic tank battles.

Dunno when you last played BW but I haven't really had much problems with air, apparently they've buffed HAA and nerfed heavy choppers in the last few patches. I mean you'll still get eaten for breakfast if you have no support, but 2 or more HAA is enough to scare off most air players if the support player is smart enough to presmoke and target the scout chopper first.
A bigger problem is support players who bring heavy artillery and plink at empty CPs the whole game without really helping the team =/

I guess I'd be fine with Air if it was limited to only one 1 person per side.
As it is, everyone tries to play Air.
At least, thats the way it was when I played last.. which was a while ago.

I don't think I've ever seen more than 2 Air players per side in 8v8 domination (which is the only game mode I play). Overall people are pretty good at balancing their roles, except there are a few maps where people don't like to play inf. Might be different in Assault or Tug of War though

If they do that for L4D (and they will I bet) I'm gonna be so pissed. :gun: because I'd be forced buy them in their awesomeness.
I wouldn't be surprised ot see this kinda thing happening down the road though. Maybe not as bad as 1 level at a time, but like another episode of L4D would cost say $5 to $10. Who wouldn't buy them that already has the game?

I'm not too concerned about that. Part of the reason most Valve games are automatic buys for me is that Valve is very free about giving away new toys for its games. Team Fortress and its children were all freebies that were patched into the original Half Life, for example. TF2 has had a bunch of weapons added, and it looks like they're going to keep doing that sort of thing for quite a while. I'm betting Left 4 Dead will get some freebies too in the coming months.

well don't forget this nugget from the wiki article:
It has been confirmed that all the multiplayer content that will be released for Soviet Assault (new maps) will be available free of charge to the World in Conflict community via Massgate.
I doubt I'll be buying Soviet Assault since I have pretty much no motivation to finish World in Conflict's SP campaign, but I'll get the maps if I'm still playing MP by then

Hmm maybe I'll go back and finish it then. The last mission I did was the one where you
secure the B2 crash site and rescue the pilots
