for some reason watching clips of the character movement and play... it doesn't look ... good *wince*.
They also lowered their number of different characters from a billion back down to 3, removing the range attacker and replacing her with a Witch Doctor. I hope this doesn't fail as bad as I think that it looks like it might...

The Diablo games boil down to whack, hack, slash. I don't think you can fuck that up. Well, okay, Hellgate: London did.
On a side note, Leonard Boyarsky is the Lead World designer, which may mean Diablo 3 will be more RPGish.

That will feel pretty limiting after TitanQuest. I smell a expansion marketing ploy.

I'm pretty sure they've only announced 3, with more the come later.

Yea, there are suppose to be five classes. They're doing the typical progressive campaign, show more and more details as time goes by so people don't loose interest. Of course, since it's Blizzard people will loose interest anyway, at least until it comes out.

Diablo 2 only had 5 classes as well. LoD added two.
I'm sure they'll do the exact same thing with D3. Diablo 3: Lord of Cookies?

Fixed that for you.

They've announced a hacker (melee character) zapper (attack magic character) summoner (one who summons AI temporary sidekicks)
Barbarian = hacker
Sorcerer/ess = Zapper
Witch Doc = Summoner
I predict the last 2 to be: A buffer (one who casts healing/buffs) and a shooter (Bow specialist)
Shooter: Possible the D1 rogue makes a return, after the events of D2, maybe the sisters would let men in to keep their numbers up. (Guess they have to change their name from "sisters of the sightless eye" to something like "order of the sightless eye") Or, a generic sounding class name (like "ranger")
Buffer: Some sort of priest/priestess, or maybe the D2 paladin returns.

Sadly they've already said that the Barbarian is the only Diablo 2 class that will be returning in D3. RIP Paladin.

The Witch Doctor is probably GOING to be the Necromancer. Summoning undead skillz, poison skillz, bone in noze skillz and wut not...
But yeah, I really liked the D2 variety of classes, mainly because each character had a middle ground.
Barb = Hack Only
Sorc = Spell Only (basically w/ a shaft to swing on)
Paly = Hack and if Necessary, Smite w/ spells.
Taking away that, it will kinda suck to be forced into a set skill/trade. Unless they bring back the spell books of D1 where you can have a Warrior/Barb w/ all the spells anyone else can have.. that'd be nice.

I'm kind of excited for another GRIMDARK hack 'n slash, and as Mean Patrick mentioned, Boyarsky is on the devteam, so at the world will be somewhat interesting.

True. Even if the critics call it diablo2 with an engine upgrade, I'll want it badly. Why? I loved D2, so a game very similar to it, but with new engine/new plot would be great.

You're gonna have to explain what "too 3D" means, cause I'm not really seeing it.

I remember seeing earlier screen shots awhile back and it hurt my eyes, I don't know. I liked the 2D/3D of Diabl2

Okay, I'll admit it looks good but I don't think it has the same feel as D1 or D2. For some reason I thought D2 was more intimidating that D3 looks. But we'll see when it comes out :)

The art direction is a bit of an issue. Looks a little too much like Warcraft.
Vatek
November 12th, 2008, 09:57 PM
Yeah, the first complaints about the new art direction hit the net about five minute after the first screenshots did.
You can definitely see the influence WoW has had on the look of the game. I actually like the art style of WoW so it's not a huge issue for me, but it definitely doesn't seem as "dark" as D1 and D2 did.

I kinda looks like Gauntlet Legends but better... anyone else think that?

I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
With that said, the characters look sort of like the one's from Gauntlet, but the scenery looks Warcraftish... or like a more colourful version of The Swing painting by Fragonard.

Besides, I found Titan Quest disturbingly lacking in gore, and cannot wait fast action and tons of blood.

Yes. Also, I'd like to see a traditional thief style character. Stealth, some evasion tanking, also can tank by debuffing enemy (dirty fighting, kick dirt in face to lower enemy accuracy, hamstringing, groin shots, etc.) can dual wield fight, and backstab for massive crit damage, but limited weapon types- club, dagger, throwing weapon, short sword, long sword, crossbow, and short bow
Combined with a ranger, who could go down one of two trees (or hybrid): dual wield weapons, or longbow, and has a combination of utility nature magic and group buffing.
Yeah, that'd be awesome.

Yeah i was aiming what I said toward the character's movement and animation.
It does look like Warcraft 3 a tad, but then again if the warcraft franchise is so great, why not take a few things?

The warcraft franchise was a stepping stone to starcraft.

I was one of the first few people shitpoasting on the internets when I saw the first screenshots. I was all kinds of up-in-arms over the "wow"ness of the screenies.. but blizzard has swore on their mothers grave that it will be darker and more nasty than even D1 was.. Diablo 1 was far more gruesome that D2 was.. so I'll just wait and see. I can't bear to keep track on the games progress, because doing that whilst waiting for D2 to go gold nearly consumed my life. I'll just sit back, play other games, and then when the 1 week to release announcement comes, I'll be surprised and happy and won't tear my hair out every day of the countdown.

You know, I never really understood the LOOT box of D2. Originally in D1 you had to have a full set of Magic stuff to read the higher level boox when you got higher up, so either you left it in your inv. or on the ground *not in a bnet game of course*. But in D2 they took out the need for that gear and made gold a 'non slot taking item' and on top of that they gave you a loot box...? I just didn't get it.
Vatek
November 16th, 2008, 10:46 PM
Well, to be fair, the only item that ever mattered in D1 was the Archangel's Staff of Apocalypse, so not much inventory management was needed.
Freshmeat.Popsicle
November 16th, 2008, 11:46 PM
Well, if you had the warrior and needed something ranged like chain lightning you could have that. HOWEVER, his magic only went up to 50, stopping you from getting any power in the spell. So you looted for anything that gave a + to magic so you could read the books to boost the power. Now, because you have 2 rings, an amulet, helm, shield, sword, and armor (not to mention the gold that takes 1 slot per 5k) you need a place to put it, and it takes up most of your inventory, so you don't have room for new loot while going through the game, so you dump it on the ground (in single player or LAN games). Then in D2 after they realized this, they gave you a box in town to hold your goodies + gold.. but they took away the need for it in the first place. They turned your Spell Book you could develop into skills that were set per character type. I just wish that you could go back to the old way.. thats my only gripe with D2, all in all, it was a good game, not much replay value though, but a good old game none the less.
I might just try and install Diablo 1 now. :D

I used my stash to carry gems/runes, twinked items I couldn't use yet, and valuable loot that the finding character couldn't or didn't want to use but which could be traded or given to another character. Really convenient, I wish the stash was even bigger
-e- also alternative equipment like MF armor or resists stuff
