I gots it today.

And while the zombie mode may not be as fun as L4D, I still like it.

I just wish the levels earned in the beta carried over to the full... :/

Oh look another ww2 game...

A friend of mine I knew in the Marines and play COD4 with told me he was picking hit up. After I told him not to, and he did it anyway, he told me it wasn't worth it.

I lold

...Well, I thought it was worth it.

Yea, it's very much like CoD4, but, honestly, when I started playing CoD4, I kinda hoped I'd see a ww2 one like it. The one thing that ruined me for playing CoD2 was every time a russian map came up, everyone but a few joined russia and grabbed a ppsh, letting russia rack up an insurmountable lead before autobalance kicked in, which only grew slightly less quickly with even teams.

Attack dogs, that is all.

*BAM BAM* Sit ubu, sit!

They fixed the one big complaint I had from the beta. The bolt action rifles are actually worth using, now.

Unlocked the arisaka, used it on one larger map, about 8/10 hits were instant death, about what I got with CoD4's bolt actions. Love that scopes are optional. I actually snipe better without them.

Wish I could opt out of using one in CoD4... but, it has the m14 :)

I couldn't hit shit with the Arisaka at ranges I know I could plant a solid headshot at with the Springfield. I think like most of my problems with weapons in CoD4 and this game it was due to chunky, small-ass ironsights.

Attack dogs are black?

Must be back, 'cause I had no problem...

EDIT: and the attack dogs look black if they're enemy dogs. And my only irritations with the game so far are:
1: No filter for hardcore servers. Honestly, I don't much go for HC.
2: Whenever someone calls in attack dogs, I get that stupid "Who let the dogs out" song going through mt head.

There's a funny quote somewhere from FourTwoZero bitching at a Treyarch developer, saying that bolt-action rifles should always be a 1-hit kill.

So a bolt action 22 should kill me in a leg shot? Right.....

OMG!

Double barrel shotgun + Grip + Steady aim perk = fun in smaller maps.

Makes me feel like shouting "This is my BOOMSTICK!"

And, I feel that at least as far as video games go, bolt action rifles (or huge caliber ones, like .50BMG) should be Torso/head shot = instant kill (Using wwII rifles used, at least). Even if a torso shot doesn't kill in 1 hit IRL, it'd put the guy out of action, so why not a 1 hit kill with torso shots in a game?

Oh, and the Garand... well, I loved in in CoD2, but for some reason I can't reliably hit anything with it. Maybe I need practice, after all, it took me a few days to learn the m14 when I first unlocked it in 4.

I get 1shot kills with the better bolt actions (kar98,mosin) vs the lower ones like the spring and the arisaka.

Makai Goblin

Two things:
The garand sucks ass. I can hit a guy reliably from a long distance or up close with the other semi-autos, but even aiming at a still guy I can't get the garand to do squat. It seems more like luck than anything else as to if I hit or not.

The PPSH is like CoD4's p90: Very effective, but not impossible to overcome. I actually got close enough to a guy with the ppsh to melee him, and you can actually kill a guy holding one if you get the jump on him.

this game shits all over ww2 with the apeture sights and 'signal flares' and the type 100 ( which was probably the worst SMG of ww2 )

but its still very fun :)

Technically, they had aperture sights as early as WWI (and issued them to ad-hoc snipers no less), but yeah definitely not as common as they'd like to make you believe.

Yea, Totally historically incorrect, but I buy these games for MP. If you liked CoD4, you'll find WaW enjoyable. Be sure to get a profile backup thingie.

As for the japanise weapons, the only ones worth anything were the arisaka rifle, and the type 99. (At least according to the episode of "Tales of the gun" I saw that delt with ww2 japanise weps)

The t-100 and the japanise pistols were crap. The nambu, because it used a pitfully weak cartridge, the t-100, IIRC, used the same weak cartridge, and had mechanical problems. Still, in the game at least, I find myself liking the 100 the most out of the SMG's.

Oh, and the FG42. Good ingame*, but it wasn't too good IRL. Used the same high power cartridge as the k98, and the recoil kept it from being accurate at the range it was designed to be used. (like the m14, best used semi-auto)

*My only gripe with the fg42 is it blows through it's ammo too fast for the 20 round magazine it has. So, fire in bursts, and use it like CoD4's m16 (medium-longish assault) and just go full auto if the guy gets close.

Some questions about the MP aspect

* Coop any good?

* Is the Sabotage game mode still around?

* How does the Second Chance perk (Last Stand + lets you be revived by teammates with Second Chance) work out in practice?

* Does shotgun shot still magically disappear a fixed distance from the barrel?

and last but not least

* Can you edit your classes in-game yet :gun:

I like it.

Question, how long is the SP game? I am doing the part on Pelileu where you are riding the tanks and you get ambushed and you have the .30 to start with. How much farther till I get zombies?

My best advise for the shotgun:
Grip + steady aim, fire from the hip.

I see no difference firing from the sights, so just fire from the hip. the steady aim perk helps.

aperture sights have existed practically forever. but they just had to pull some bullshit aimpoint out of their ass and stick it on everything.

the closest thing to that would be the 1.5x sight that some sharpshooters had on a k98

GrosPoisson
November 29th, 2008, 04:22 AM
The aperture sight they have in-game did have real-life counterparts though, is what I should have said. I have an interesting book, "Out of Nowhere" that goes into a lot of interesting detail about more obscure equipment used as the development of sniping went on, and they have examples of aperture sights that are real similar to the one in WaW.

Edit: But yeah, it was specialist equipment of the uncommon sort. The 1.5x scope is the exception because the Germans decided for whatever reason to manufacture in sizable quantities (over 100,000 of them IIRC).

They're fun to fire in real life, almost no recoil and quick on the trigger.

The few times I picked one up, it did just that. Not an invincible weapon, but so fun to use.

Ironic, because the real carbine's (military issue) rounds weren't loaded to their full potential. (Read in book from library, don't recall title)

A history channel show had an exert from a guy doing scouting in the pacific, it said it took him 4 hits to down an enemy. He went to the quartermaster, and traded it for a 1911.

Still, I hear a 30 carbine round, loaded to full potential, can be near a .357 mag. Dunno how true that is, but it would make sense some manufacturers made it a round for revolvers, if so.
