This game was goddamn fantastic when it still had a high playerbase. Gal drops full of nothing but guys in the stealth suits, just ghost raping a poorly defended base. Mosquito duels high up in the clouds, before the skeeter with the AA missile arrived to fuck that all up heh

Yeah PS was one of those games I wish I had gotten around to playing. In its hey-day I didn't have a good enough computer for it.

I unfortunately started playing PS (did play beta) just after it had waned a bunch. I did however, run around with a really nasty awesome vS crew, whose name I don't remember anymore.

Oh the bitching was hilarious. How did we take down a base? We weren't 1337 circle strafers who just fought the main point. We had tactics for everything. Coordinated Gal drops on the backdoor, the main door, and a max rush ALL at the same time, all arriving at the same time, with air support. We were a miniature version of that crazy huge NC outfit back in the day whose name I don't remember. We took bases down with our ~25 man teams 99% of the time. Oh, and we always blew the gen. The whining was epic. "Waaaaaah we can't fight you we have no gear this is dumb no skill noobs lol." Sorry, bitch about something we actually care about. Maybe you should've defended your generator.

Gals were pretty low tier if I recall.

But the fact that you had to do ANYTHING besides find out and fly it seemed like it would be a turn-off to me.

I don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure you could go through the stupid tutorial/training area racking up XP and have enough certs to fly a Gal. It would take maybe 10-15 minutes of running around, then you'd be able to fly to your heart's content.

TR isn't a shitty game right now (It may have been at release thought). It's actually fun as shit right now.

The server shut down has nothing to do with the quality of the game, it's because it's not making them enough money AND because Richard Garriott left.

The gameplay is actually pretty damn fun, has a lot of very smart ideas.

The player base has been stable for several months; it's just not enough to justify the expense of maintaining a development team to working on it.

1/2 the player base left in the first few months of the game because at the time, it sucked. Since then, it was completely overhauled and now is a pretty damn good game.

Only problem was, it was an NCSoft game that was championed by Richard Garriott, who was planning to leave NCSoft anyway and NCSoft never wanted TR in the first place. Hence, when Garriott left, TR was cut.

You missed out, you didn't need much of anything to fly a galaxy. Nice thing about being a pilot is you could also go focus on the mosquito and reaver and have a blast just being air cav. I miss planetside, I really do but the damn thing kept crashing up till the day I quit and the community just fell apart.

I'll remember it fondly, too bad it's over.
