damnit. I just uninstalled HL2 last week because it looked like there wouldn't be any mods coming out soon. Now I'm going to have to go through all the update hassle again. Since my HL2 copy is the one that first came out, that's going to be a long update.

Fuck yes. I'll have to bust out the desktop to play that.

Oh God I've been waiting for this mod since before HL2 came out.

This means I'm going to have to fight those God damn gargantuas and tigershark things again. FUCK.

woah, from the little you could see there it looks like they've done a first class job of this. I'd almost pay again just to get this... definitely something that Valve should look to bring into the fold.

I'm holding my applause for now, since a lot of that looked basically scripted. When we see some in-game footage that doesn't rely on specific camera angles or flashy camera effects, then I'll say something.

QFE. it looks good, but not award winning. I'll hold my thoughts on it until I have played it.

It's a free mod, ffs. It looks better than half the games out there already, and you're holding them to some sort of higher standard than that?

Models look promising...love the music. I've been following this mod for awhile.

I think their point is that specifically what you can see looks a lot better than half the games out there, but there are a lot of things that you can't, and those things make up the bulk of the game. It's like with the Crysis battletech mod, where everything looks orgasmic but when you look closely you can see that none of the mechs actually move and everything is aerofighters and tanks.

Speaking of which, is it me, or are the other two tentacles in the blast chamber scene mysteriously still?

I'm excited. I liked the Half Life 1's concept better than HL2's dystopian theme.

You know there are scripted events in the game right?

CheeseSteakJim

just about all of that god damn game was scripted...

doesn't mean it wasn't awesome though.

My point is that the whole trailer is pretty much scripted, so it's probably not representative of what gameplay will actually be like. If they manage to actually make the whole game look like that trailer, well and good, but until I see otherwise I'm going to just assume that it'll play like any other HL2 mod out there.

It's not supposed to be an earth shattering take on the HL2 engine, it's supposed to be a good version of Half-Life on the source engine because valve did a shitty job porting it.

Considering it's a near exact remake of HL1, there's really not much they can do with the gameplay. I don't believe or expect that the bad guys' AI is going to be anything special, or the weapons are going to behave much differently. A "realism" mod might be interesting, where weapons do more damage and whatnot, but that just wouldn't be Half-Life would it? It's a run and gun shooter with story cutscenes scripted into the gameplay. Now with rag-dolls and sexy visuals.

On the bright side, the one thing they'll have had to have improved is the NPC control. Barney and scientists who can follow you were pretty retarded in HL1, but the things they added in HL2 with the rebels were a lot better. That aspect of the game should be more interesting.

Hopefully I can still RAGE on the scientists and murder all of them.

It's not that Valve did a bad job porting...the issue is that it was just a port.

Looks nice. I'm wondering if it will be a straight up remake or if they'll be adding stuff.

Agent Law
December 5th, 2008, 06:09 PM
I think it'll be just a remake. Their intention was to create a proper Source version of HL.

From stuff I remember reading a good long while back, I was under the impression that they were being faithful, but might change a couple of bits and peices. Hopefully this means they've cut On A Rail.
