You have stumbled across a feature that was planned for Apocrypha but was ultimately cut due to time and technical constraints. These in fact were "virtual" combat arenas where you could engage in one-on-one consensual ranked PVP combat. The code had to be shelved as the server code doesn't allow for anything virtual within EVE. For instance, every ship that gets destroyed, is destroyed in "reality". Of course it's a little more complex than that, but that's what it boils down to.

So like a patient rejecting a liver, the EVE software architecture rejected the feature and changing the software architecture to make it work was well beyond the scope of Apocrypha. Thus it was cut. May well find its way into the game some day later, but will need a lot of work if we feel it is something we want to do.

As if w-space (assuming no local) isnt enough like instanced areas already, they almost made fucking loss-free PVP.

I firesale when THAT patch hits.

I don't see the problem - it'd be like going to Sisi to test out ideas, except a whole lot more convenient.

Also I'm not sure I understand the outcry about wormhole 'instances' - how is it any worse than complexes that require a key to get to the next stage?

This is the point. On Sisi, there's max 500 people at peak times. If consensual Arena PVP hit TQ, everyone would be doing it, giving an alternative to actual PVP. Want a 1v1? No loot for you then.

Yeah, that's just whiny gankbears feeling deprived of their 0.0 nanogangs. I for one am looking forward to ganking WH runners and taking their loot, getting T3 components without all the annoying NPCing.

Point taken. Perhaps it could work if they had it but limited it's use within a corporation or alliance - keeping the aspect of being able to test out fittings but without removing regular PVP aspects.

I would have flipped my fuckin' lid if that shit went live. Wormholes are NOT instances, they are perpetual systems with random exits and entrances. Go to sisi if you want pretend pvp.

Christ, that would have ruined the game.

Actually this couldve worked, if they made it for new players to learn pvp. Maybe something like training ground kind of plexes.

Snake (telos) got shot and podded flying through rancer. You think he learned his lesson? Damn right he did. You don't need a pussy assed shit like this to learn. I'm ashamed you would think so, give me your man card.

Fuck that idea. This is not WoW. Losses are lessons. This is how you learn in a real game.

hay guyz wats goin on in dis thread?

But yeah, your Newbie Village Idiot is reporting. Anybody care to kinda summarize this for me? What does it mean? What WOULD it mean for a Newbie such as myself trying to get into the bread and butter of EVE?

the reason EVE PVP is so satisfying a pursuit, is its repercussions. Win the fight, you keep all you've worked for, your ship, its fittings and cargo. Loose the fight, loose everything up to and including your clone. And, the guy(s) that just kicked your ass get whats left of your ship and fittings.
Instanced PVP, like WoW battlegrounds, would rob PVP of its zest, its life, its meaning.

as someone stated the only way it would work would be corp limited. and it wouldnt even be that useful. 2v2 or 3v3 (or some other combo) would be the best way to learn to pvp. any other incarnation and I'd leave eve. even then its still lame

They should have 0.0 border zones between regions....some high sec gates but also free for all war systems near each faction borders where pvp can take place...same rules as 0.0./.........kinda like the Gaza Strip...that would be cool.
