aming's biggest virtual world introduces unstable wormholes to explore, Tech 3 cruisers, epic mission arcs and more in its tenth free expansion

Reykjavik, Iceland February, 26th, 2009 – CCP, one of the world's leading independent game developers, today announced the full features list for EVE Online: Apocrypha, the tenth free expansion for EVE Online subscribers, which is due out on March 10th, coinciding with the availability of EVE in retail outlets across North America, Europe and Pan Asia. Pilots will be able to scan down and enter massive, chaotic wormholes that have opened into unexplored solar systems. There, untold opportunities await behind the powerful defensive curtain of an ancient, deadly race. When defeated and pillaged, their ships and fortifications become the basis of the next level of technology back on the "safer" side of the wormholes.

EVE's Senior Producer Torfi Frans Olafsson on Apocrypha: "Just like the human body is said to regenerate itself every seven years, EVE Online continues to grow and evolve in its sixth year of operation, with systems being added, refined, refactored and polished with every expansion we make. As the player base continually grows, we are able to increase the development team and bring in more engineers, designers and artists for each expansion. This allows us to deliver such a broad range of features catering to a variety of playstyles in a volume that we can be proud of."

"It's both comforting and disturbing to come home after work, log in to EVE late in the evening and find the same developers that spend their long day building EVE, playing it and enjoying it deep into the night. We are a company that truly sips its own champagne, likes it and strives to make it more tasty whenever we can."

The improvements for Apocrypha include:

Explore and dominate more than 2,400 solar systems that exist on the other side of unstable wormholes opening up throughout New Eden. New scanning mechanics allow you to find and explore them in the first truly uncharted space in EVE.
Wormholes aren't the only thing to discover. Booster sites, archeological digs, hacking sites, gas clouds and salvaging sites are some of the surprises in store for those pilots skilled in scanning exploration.
The Sleepers, a new NPC race, protect an ancient technology within the wormhole-space. They exhibit intelligence unlike any enemy yet found in new Eden, requiring pilots to react to their deadly, shifting tactics.
Tech 3 strategic cruisers are the first ship class to arise from reverse engineered technology gleaned from wormhole space fueling their production. Their modular nature allows for a broad level of customization of both ship appearance and performance.
The New Player Experience has been rebuilt from the ground up with improved tutorials and an easier introduction to possible "career" paths. Rookie starship pilots will find it smoother than ever to become a force to be reckoned with in the limitless world of New Eden.
The introduction of Epic Mission Arcs, huge branching mission sagas, are designed to give new pilots a tour across many regions of space and bring them out the other end, battle-hardened and knowledgeable about the EVE universe.
Hundreds of visual aspects in the game have been renovated, including almost every effect in game. All new assets make up the massive wormhole spaces, such as new NPC structures and gorgeous nebulas. Space just keeps looking better with age.
With further performance increases, optimizations and graphics upgrades, we bid farewell to our Classic Graphics Client as players across all platforms begin to enjoy the beauty of Premium Lite.
Mac owners rejoice! EVE will now be available to you in all of its Premium graphics glory.
Character attributes can now be rearranged in order to diversify or specialize skill training with Attribute Remapping, perfect for a veteran who needs to switch focus or a new player who's just discovered a different niche.
Players can now schedule automatic training of multiple skills with an original skill queue planning interface designed for maximum efficiency.
A redesigned Ship Fitting Panel screen allows for more information when kitting out your ship. The ability to export both ship fittings and overview settings means that you can share your best configurations with your friends or you can quickly re-fit a replacement ship to head back into battle.
The Audio Engine allows more flexibility for our sound designers, meaning a complete revamp of a lot of audio effects including warping, jumpgates and cloaking. Brand new sounds will also grace Apocrypha's new visual effects.
Our efforts to bring EVE closer to everyone's home continue with the localized Russian client coming out of beta testing to full support.
The full feature list is expanded upon further at www.eveonline.com/apocrypha, including links to blogs on specific features written by members of the development team. The page also contains interviews with our developers, screenshots, our teaser trailer and more. Check back in for regular updates as we reveal even more of Apocrypha leading up to launch.

They cut like 20% of the T3 out of this release because they (quite unsurprisingly) underestimated the workload.

In numbers that means, instead of 3125 possible combinations for each T3 ship, you can only get 243. Out of which from what i've seen, most are useless. Guess you'll end up with 3 to 5 or so workable base setups per ship.

Doesnt really differ from the really usable module loadouts you can put on each ship. I mean, are there really more than 5 Typhoon setups that really work? Doubt it. Still, kind of excited.

Intrested about how the attribute modifications will work, as they'll no doubt change it last minute.
As the entire of EvE prepares to have as much Charisma as Gruxella.

Sounds too good to be true tbh, setting up perfect 30's for the skills you want to train over next few weeks/months.

New blog says no moon minerals in wormhole space. I am of the opinion that this is shit but other people seem to think it is good. So there you have it. With T3 ships being as crap as they are why would anyone go there?

No way to get a cap fleet in there to kill the tower, and you couldnt get enough BS through the mass filter to kill a large tower or even a really well tasnked medium in any sort of sane timeframe. I think tis good there arent more magic dyspro moons out there.

I am intrigued by the W space and the T3 cruisers, I will say that. At least the gallente t3 and caldari t3 dont look like crap so far. not much hope for the Loki though.

Taking down a tower would take more planning I admit but but no means would it be impossible. Get a few caps into system per day for a week and you're set. Unless the tower owners have stacks of dreads logged off in system, the moon is pretty much yours as the enemy wouldn't be able to get a fleet in in time to save it.

question is how do you keep finding the entry to to the wormhole space where the starbase is.
From what I understand wormholes to these new systems will be random, so how do you propose finding another entry to the particular wormhole system when the first gate closes. Also with such a large number of new systems, it might take you days or weeks to find another access to the same system.

You keep a scout(s) in the wormhole system permanently

Tori Storm

but how do u get ure cap's there without finding another wormhole gate....u cant cyno there.

excerpt from the latest dev blog-
Laws of W-space

As fun as it is to let you find out things for yourselves, there are a few things that I need to tell you without being ‘mysterious'.

Starbases are allowed to be anchored in W-space but cannot claim sovereignty. Additionally, there are no minable moon minerals in W-space.
The wormholes into W-space are too small to allow the transit of Titans and Motherships. All dreams of Quad-DDing a Sleeper fleet, as much as they might deserve it, are now shattered. (Awww!)
Even though you can bring your Rorquals into W-space, their clone vat bay functionality will be unavailable.
You cannot activate a cynosural beacon in W-space nor can you activate your jump drive (on those ships equipped with one) to escape.""

How else can a scout help you, cuz even if the scout is used to find another wormhole from the wormhole system(where the POS is), you would have no way of knowing where it goes unless you go through it and even then the system might be in another wormhole space system or many jumps away from where your caps are.

Question - do wormholes allow one way traffic or you can usethe same wormhole to come and go

Kejontes
March 6th, 2009, 08:44 AM
They are 2 way so you can jump back and forth with someone who is not the scout to collapse the wormhole and then see where the next one links to. Some wormholes are large enough to take dreads and carriers. I never said it'd be easy but it'd possible were the point not moot but for an eleventy trillion isk a month moon you'd find a way.

Tori Storm
March 6th, 2009, 09:20 AM
well almost anything is possible and if one has the resources and number of people looking for that particular system, eventually you will find it. Ofcourse the allure of trillion isk moon will keep you at it too. So u r right i guess.
