I like most combat sports but I love boxing so...
I think my all time favourite fight is probably Nigel Benn Vs Gerald McClellan

Tragic aftermath mind :(
More recently, The Vasquez / Marquez trilogy is hard to beat for sheer skill and guts. Also unusual because each fight was better than the last, reaching it's climax in an incredible third fight...

The last fight I stayed up until 04:00 to watch that didn't dissapoint was Calzaghe Vs Lacy. Absolute masterclass from Joe...

Alistair Overeem vs Chuck Liddell (http://www.spikedhumor.com/player/FullScreen.aspx?file=http://www.spikedhumor.com/videocodes/137556/data.xml&item=2×tamp=0&id=137556) was one hell of a quarterfinal matchup back in the PRIDE 2003 Middleweight Grand Prix. Chuck was the underdog in this one. Overeem was manhandling chuck for most of the match, until chuck lands a baseball-pitch style overhand right to Overeem's face.
Gomi vs Azredo I (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x55onx_gomi-vs-azeredo_sport) One of the most intense rivalries in the sport. The birth of The Fireball Kid. One of the most entertaining opening rounds ever.
Josh Neer vs Mac Danzig (http://cagewarsvideos.blogspot.com/2009/02/ufn-17-mac-danzig-vs-josh-neer.html) Not really significant, but I think Danzig is a douchebag, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching him get owned. The exchange at the 1:00 mark of the first round is incredible.

My 5 greatest PRIDE/Dream MMA fights. (Will post 5 fav UFC fights later)
1) Fedor vs Randleman - Only Fedor Emilienko can survive a slam like that. Thats why they call him the last emperor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q34KGpiuB8 Please also watch Fedor vs Tim Sylvia and Fedor Vs Arlowski for ultimate uber ownage.
2) Tied Wanderlei vs Rampage - This fight has one of the best displays of clinch and brutal knees(in MMA) to the head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPfk83KbLs8
Wanderlei vs Sakuraba - this fight personafies violence, please do watch it to see what iam talking bout. Sakuraba is a japanese MMA legend and this fight went a great way in establishing wanderlei as the top dog in japan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJKEBKmb2eM
3) Rampage vs Shogun - Another uber domination and imprssive use of Muay thai in MMA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aXrKPyayhU
4) Crocop vs Wanderlei - Right High Kick to hospital, Left High Kick to cemetary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2-ZhW968U8
5) TIED Aoki vs Hansen - you have to be pretty slick and flexible to pull this off. although the rainbow pants help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrBlOaZU3OU
Jacare vs Mousasi - Just beacuse jacare was supposed to steam role thorough mousasi. Jacare is a many time world Brajillian Jiu jitsu mundial winner and Abu dhabi winner. I also like it cuz the end was so sudden and unexpected http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=futGxfl3zfI
honorable mention - crocop vs nog, crocop vs barnett, fedor vs fujita and nog, rampage vs arona, lil nog vs sokodjou, domi vs nick diaz, gomi vs Bj penn

Interesting that most of these fights are Pride, I wish that UFC would adopt those rules.

Well with so many still wanting to ban MMA, its good that we dont follow the japanese rules. Just imagine all the neo liberals and washington socialites getting a heart attack, if UFC allowed soccer kicks and stomps.
You can see the soccer kicks in the wanderlei vs rampage fight. Its basically kicking a downed opponent(like a soccer ball), same goes for foot stomps.
Also in Pride you can knee a downed opponent in the head, wanderlie and shogun both used it to great affect. UFC only allows you to knee the body of the downed guy.
On a diff note UFC allows elbow strikes, whereas pride didnt allow them
I was gonna post my 5 fav UFC fights, but due to copyright violations, the video arent on youtube anymore.

I think Pride > UFC, but I still enjoy both. Meanwhile in boxing, here's an early contender for K.O. of the year...

Last night's Froch/Taylor matchup turned out to be a thriller. Taylor caught Froch bigtime in the 3rd to put him on his pants for the first time in his career in only his second fight outside the UK. Froch displayed a granite chin and great heart to pick himself up and grind Taylor down to a 12th round TKO...

Taylor just kinda ran out of gas like he did against Pavlik, but I think the fight was more about Froch's desire to hold onto his title. He just wasn't going to allow himself to get beat.

I think Pride > UFC, but I still enjoy both.
You do know that Pride died in 2006 right? Now the japs have Sengoku and Dream. Neither of which is even a shadow of Pride in its hayday. UFC is the top organization now, with Strikeforce the runner-up, and Dream at #3 or #4, depending on if you count Affliction, since they've only held two events.
Anyway, back to favorite fights, Nick Diaz is a fucking badass.

^^ yeah that diaz/riggs fracas happened a few years back, infact there is also supposed to be a video of this. Never was able to find it though.
I dunno man, i never liked diaz or his brother. He hasnt really beaten many top level guys. he almost seemed like a guy whos good but not good enought, but still ill have to say that gogoplata on gomi and the shamrock ass kicking were awesome.

He fought the Who's Who of the UFC Welterweight division, aside from GSP, at it's peak.
Who gets put up against Sanchez, Parisyan and Sherk in consecutive fights? At the age of 22?
All of which were wars.
He's dropped some BS decisions, but he's on a 4 fight TKO streak.
And you can't say he didn't fight top competition becuase he Gogo'd Gomi when Gomi was the #1 Ranked Lightweight in the world... while high.
How can you not like the guy? Don't say he has no class, as he said himself, "None of us motherfuckers have class. We fight in a cage, throwin' elbows and shit."
Name a BORING Nick Diaz fight.

True but fighting and beating top level guys are 2 different things. As i said before apart from couple of guys he hasnt really beaten any big names.
I do agree though that he has lost some bs decisions and 9 out of 10 times he'll beat K J noons.
Boring diaz fights - vs diego sanchez - Although it was more because of diego sanchez being a douche (remember the days when he was unbeaten and thought he was gods gift to MMA) and hanging on nick's back for a whole round and doing next to nothing.
Also check the video of Diaz vs Aina. No way that fight shouldve been split decision, since Mike aina is one of those guys whos brought in so big name guys can pad their record. It was one of most lack lusture performance by diaz.
Ill still say though he rocked when he ko'd robbie lawler....made me lol
Its not the class thing but the "thug look" which kind of annoys me. To me he appears as one of those guys at the bar/club who wear a TAPOUT shirt and act all tough but in reality they are pussies (whove never trained a day in life) and its just the alcohol talking. People like them will talk a lot but will never walk the walk or will wait till they have buddies behind them and then act tough. Ofcourse nick's a real fighter and mad props to him for that but the vibe i get from him is of a wanna be thug. Its also possible that its all an act and this persona of his is just to attract fans. In other words i dont like him because he is a bad fighter or someting but more because of his personality.
He is young though, so who knows how hell bein the next few years.

Well, this is probably the only place for this question. What do you all think of Pacquiao vs. Hatton this weekend? I'm not very knowledgeable about the sport but I'll be surprised if Hatton can handle his speed. And I fucking hate Floyd Mayweather Sr.

All Pac-Man.
No-one can hang with Pac-man right now. He's got a lot of momentum behind him.

Boy, did Pacman take out Hatton or what?...
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/47563/2i8dcms.gif
I expected Manny to take a couple of rounds to get his range and win on a 8th or 9th round stoppage but Hatton's inability to move his head while just trundling in proved decisive. He ate a shitload of heavy shots before the above punch put him in La La Land and he should really retire now.
Pacman on the other hand - what can you say? The guy's a freak! I think he could carry that power up another couple of divisions too (remember, he's already a four division lineal champion). Truely a once (maybe twice) in a lifetime boxer.
-e- Full fight. Get it while it's up...

When I saw it for the first time, it was so quick, it seemed like a phantom punch. I saw Manny throw the left hand, but at first glance, it didn't appear to have much on it. I thought it was fixed so boxing can return to the limelight with Manny vs Mayweather.
Then I watched the replay...

So Juan Manuel Marquez is going to fight Mayweather at 144 pounds.. I don't think Marquez he has a chance. That's nearly a 10 pound jump for Marquez, and 135 was already stretching it a bit. On the other hand, 144 is pretty much Mayweather's ideal weight.

Setting up Mayweather vs Manny.
I'd love to see it backfire and have Marquez win by KO.
The best comparison I could think of would be from MMA when the UFC tried to setup Couture vs Cro Cop, and put Cro Cop up against Gabriel Gonzaga, a grappler who everyone expect to get knocked out by a brutal Red and White checkered head-kick...

I understand that upsets are possible, but Marquez is a less talented fighter that's also essentially moving up two weight classes to fight Mayweather where he's most comfortable.. I'd be surprised.

I think it will be a long time before anyone beats Machida. Evans was never in that. He landed maybe two meaningful punches the entire fight.

May 24th, 2009, 11:36 PM
heheheh this makes me so happy...i love forrest and it was sad to see him lose to evans but machida made it all better for me.
Also it shows all the mofos that machida has different gears he fighst at. With some he just fools around and gets a decision but when he wants he can KO people and make them still look funny.
I do hope that he keeps the belt for a bit, since the last 2 champs have lost it the very next fight after winning the belt.
Also for some reason i has serra and hughes fight as a tie. Serra was definately doing better on ground and definately won the first round. With second going to hughes and 3 rd was very very close, but i had it as 9-9.

In the lead up to Mayweather v Marquez, HBO are reshowing Paquiao v Marquez 1 in a nice resolution. BJ Penn vs Joe Daddy Stevenson: This fight was downright brutal, Daddy got opened up like a blood bag.
Guida v Nightmare Sanchez: was ridiculously frantic in it's base, relentless destruction.
Lidell v Couture series
Wanderlei v Lidell
Tank Abott vs Vitor Belfort
GSP's defense at UFC 87 can't remember his opponent, great fight though
KenFlo v Huerta just because I have a Hard on for Kenflo
Machida's knockouts of thiago silva and Rashad Evans are great clinics of how to knockout even the best in the world.
