OTF Mafia #1 (Game over!)

Welcome to the OTF Mafia game. What is Mafia? In its simplest form, Mafia consists of two sides: the Mafia, and the Town. The Mafia's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Town's goal is to kill the Mafia.

Rules:
At the beginning of the game, I will secretly send everyone their role. The Mafia will know who each other are, while everyone else will only know their own role (i.e. Townie).

The game has two phases. First is Night -- during Night, the Town can not communicate AT ALL (not privately, not publicly). The thread will be locked and the Mafia can discuss and choose someone to murder PRIVATELY (i.e. PMs, or email, or IM, or IRC or however you want to do it that is NOT public). After I have received the name of the victim, I will reveal the dead player, unlock the thread, and Day begins.

During Day, the Town must choose someone to Lynch (they do this publicly in the thread); they are trying to eliminate the Mafia, but the Mafia can lead them astray by casting suspicion elsewhere. When a player gets a majority of the votes, they are lynched. Their role is revealed by me, and it is once again Night.

The game alternates between Night and Day until either the Mafia are eliminated, or the Mafia have killed everyone else.

In addition, if we get enough people, there are specialty roles. Whether I include these or not depends on precisely how many people we have (we can play the game with as few as 5 people, but it gets way better if we have 10-15 or more).

Cop - Each night, the Cop can investigate one player (by sending their name to me), and finds out whether that player is Mafia or not. The Cop is on the Town's side. With a big enough game, there will be variations: you may randomly find yourself as a paranoid cop (All results show up as Mafia), naive cop (all results show up as Townie), or insane cop (all results show up as the opposite of what the player is). I'll announce in advance if those are going to be used; you won't, however, know your sanity.

Doctor - Each night, the Doctor can choose one player to protect (by sending their name to me). If the Mafia (or anyone else) tries to kill that player, they will fail. The Doctor is on the Town's side.

Vigilante - Each night, the Vigilante may kill another player (by sending their name to me). The Vigilante is on the Town's side. Has limited kills.

Serial Killer - The Serial Killer (SK), like the Vigilante, may kill another player each Night (by sending their name to me). However, the Serial Killer is not on the Town's side or the Mafia's side. The Serial Killer wins when everyone else is dead. Does not have limited kills, but must try to kill every night. If I include him, there will guaranteed be a Doctor. Needs significantly more people than the vigilante for us to include it.

Roleblocker - Each night, the Roleblocker can choose a player. That player will be prevented from using his or her night choice, if they have one. Can be on both sides.

Honor code. Plus, since I'll see all the submissions, patterns will become apparent. Plus, people breaking the rules still run the risks of their actions -- Townies won't know for sure if the person they're talking to is a Mafia, for example. Sure they can claim that they are, but lying about your role is part of the strategy.

It's a very common strategy that during daytime, you publicly announce what your role is (real or not), in order to confuse other people or prompt an action. For example, if I'm a cop, I might say I'm a cop to get other people to take my answers seriously because I'd know whether they're mafia or not. On the other hand, I might be lying about being a cop, because that means people will take me more seriously and kill off their own team by accident. On the other hand, I might be a paranoid/naive cop and have wrong info. On the other hand, announcing I'm a cop might prompt the Mafia to kill me to cover their asses.

See what I mean?

So for instance, say Dinko is a mafia, RR is a cop, and MP is a Townie Vigilante. RR talks to MP at night (cheating) and says "Hey, I'm a cop, I did a check on Dinko and he comes up as mafia". MP doesn't know if RR is telling the truth. He could be trying to get MP to reveal his role (if Dinko winds up dead, he'll know MP is a vigilante for instance....but maybe not. Maybe the Mafia killed off one of their own). But, he could be lying and trying to put the blame on Dinko -- for all MP knows, Dinko is a townie.

I'm 99.999% sure that there are addons / plugins / scripts /whatever they're called that work for the forums that allow mods to play. I'd have to doublecheck with my sister about the stuff - - but she plays Vampires / werewolfs / townspeople on HER forum, and the game is essentially the same. I'm sure she'd be willing to throw me where to get the script / give me their script.

Oh no, part of the whole point is that the Mafia's advantage in being able to confer, is balanced out by them being a much smaller force.

-e- in general, the greater your advantages, the smaller in number you will be. For example, if we get a serial killer, he can kill every night whoever he wants; this is balanced out by there only being one of him.

And with that final bell, the class was dismissed. As soon as Kyle Casey was packing his books to run out to his pimpin' pinto, he saw two shadows following him. Kyle took the un-obvious detour to the back lot but to his surprise, couple of threat notes were left on his car. What an irony! The hunter has become the hunted! As soon as Kyle turned on his car, swering revenge by grabbing the handgun from glove box, the car blew up. Investigation results showed up that apparently some airheads replaced the fuel in the pinto with their three days old piss. This created the engine to malfunction and resulting in sparkage which resulted to death of Kyle.

Noone except for random groundhogs and two fat squirrels showed up at Kyle's funeral which consisted of the only body part found of him from the death scene: the right forearm that had blown up gun.

The day and night periods are indefinite. It is daytime until the town decides on who to lynch (and any day actions are taken). It is night time until the mafia decides who to kill (and any night actions are taken).

I'll do the sorting now and get this started within the hour. I'm also locking the thread. Consider night time to be starting -- it will last until the Mafia team gives me the name of their kill.

Going too slow. Deadline for the Mafia to decide on and submit their night action is 8pm tonight. I have a phone interview with the LA Times around that time; I'm resolving the night time as soon as that is over.

Day breaks over the town of OTF. As a newsboy goes about his paper route early in the morning, he notices a slew of vultures hovering around something hidden in the brush. Curious, he bikes over to investigate. Pulling back the scrub brush, he's treated to the sight of Anna's mangled body. Her face beaten to a pulp, and a large stiletto is sticking out of her back. He vomits all over the bloodied bathrobe she is wearing and runs away screaming for help.

Across town, MeanPatrick fails to show up for his job as a high school rape counselor. Worried, his boss stops at his home to make sure he is alright, and bring by some chicken soup. As she approaches the door, it appears to actually be open. She peers into the room and sees MeanPatrick's severed arm hanging from the ceiling, his bloody dismembered torso stapled to the wall. That's all they ever found of MeanPatrick. The wounds were subsequently determined to have been caused by a combination of meat cleaver strikes and chainsaws.

It is now day. Talk amongst yourselves and figure out who to lynch. Any cops, now is the time to submit a name for investigation (the results will carry out over the night time, and be available in time for the next day).

Well, you have to lynch someone to set it to night again. So part of the whodunnit is in breaking down people's votes on who to lynch. Say person A picks you. Why did they pick you? Would a Mafia do that? What about a Townie? And then say person B piles on. Based on your suspicions does that change anything?

Or, you could try and trap them into a lie. Or analyze their words. For instance, Person C may have said something as day starts that might get you thinking hmm....he could be a mafia....

Plus, the cops will start finding out results on their investigations. But, will they reveal them publicly for fear they'll get whacked next? Or can you trust the next person claiming to be a cop?

But that being said, until you can start getting good ideas of who does what, you'll be lynching at random.

Would be easier if everyone just kept a running tally of the votes...ie one person votes for me so they just put Colon: 1 at the bottom of their post, then the next person votes for MG, they'd put

Nah, that was just if there was separate mafia forum for night time.

It's reasonable to assume that with 18 surviving players the game will physically be unable to last longer than 9 turns. (Mafia whacks and lynching). Assuming there are players with killing roles and they aren't taken out early, the game probably will end in 6 turns or so max.

Sensing something is wrong, Colon hobbles his way towards them. Approaching the mob, he says "Hey guyz whats goin on in dis thread"

A cry comes up from the crowd. "That sounds like what one of them black pe.....mafia would say! LYNCH HIM!" The crowd erupts into a roar and before colon can react, he's being strung up from a tree, with a rope digging into his neck.

He tries to struggle, but it's too late. Dark spots blur the edges of his vision as things start to go dim. His legs kick wildly, but find no grasp. In abject terror, he clutches his hand out. Something is clasped in it. As his heart beats its last pulses of life, his hand slowly opens and the object falls to the ground.

It is a police badge.

Just to clarify something - During the day, all town communication must be public here. Town is not allowed to PM each other. Mafia is the only ones allowed to communicate privately amongst themselves.

Resolution - A dark figure lurks outside Mr. Fiends house. Wielding a machete, he watches through the window for his chance to strike. Unfortunately, the chance never comes. "Hey mister! What are you doing?" shouts a fat kid on a tricycle. "Why are you touching your peepee! I'm TELLING!" The opportunity lost, the figure runs off into the night, muttering deranged curses of "DEATH TO THE INDECISIVE!" Maddog wanders down the street, muttering to himself about "cleaning up this town." He comes across the fat kid, and thinks "Success! This is my chance! Now I can finally clean up this one horse town!" He chases in the direction the dark figure went. Headlights bloom behind him, and Maddog offers blessings to the god-Emperor and his Golden Throne for the good luck. The lights will drive away the hiding places of this infidel. Suddenly, realization hits him. He knows who that fat kid is...he's seen him before. His mind flashes back to what he spent the past 8 hours doing....searching for someone. Of all the people......it was the fat kid! The headlights grow closer and out the window of the car pops a hand bringing a shotgun to bear. The shotgun barks, and splatters Maddog's brains on the sidewalk. His eyeball, forced out of the socket by the overwhelming pressure, flies down the street, and lands at the fat kid's feet. The kid looks a bit confused -- he was not expecting to see an assassination. He eats the eyeball, farts, and runs off to go play with dolls.

DEAD - Maddog (Town Cop)

The mysterious dark stranger paused to catch his breath, the machete slipping back into his WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING ME sheath. He looked over his shoulder and it appeared that he lost the fat kid and the cop. He sat down on a stump OH GOD THE BEES WHAT THE FUCK and plotted his next move. A single shot rang out in the night, blasting him off the stump onto his back. Everything went dark for a moment, and he heard the sound of cowboy boots and spurs approaching. The booted man kicked the limp body, and satisfied with the lifelessness, jogged off into the darkness. Slowly bleeding to death, the dark figure awaited WHY IS MY MOTHER TALKING TO ME his doom. A low moan escaped his lips and reached the ears of a nearby man in a fancy suit. The man rushed over and immediately performed CPR. "It appears whoever shot you missed anything vital. You're lucky, no broken bones either. The swelling will go down in a few days. Listen....I don't want any part of this business, so I'll be going now. Forget you ever saw me." With that he ran off into the distance.

The doctor unknowingly protected the SK

If MG is the doctor like he says. Then he patched up Riot like he said. If he did then Riot is either the serial killer or the vigilante. (Serial Killer in my opinion)

If the vigilante comes forward then we can know who is lying. Either Riot or MG.

But it's a moot point. Whoever is the Serial Killer will die next round. The real doctor wont protect the SK anymore and the vigilante will seek justice if he can. Seeing that they both know who he is.

Roommate Riot looked under the bed. He looked behind the cabinet. He looked in the dresser. Nowhere could he find his favorite dildo. You know, the one with all the spikes. Fuck, it must be gone. He'd have to find a replacement.

He walked down the street and down to the local high school gymnastics studio. He walked over to the pole vault rack, and found one thick enough to suit his needs. He then lubed it up and slowly sat down on it, giggling maniacally. The sound of an oncoming mob distracted him though, and his hands slipped. The pole impaled through his intestines, sending shard of wood through his bowels, fecal matter and blood spraying across the floor in a sickening, fetid pool. The shaft pierced out of his mouth, like some grotesque rotisserie.

The mob broke down the door of the gym, and gasped at the sight in front of them. Their fun spoiled, they grumbled and headed home.
