Lately I've just noticed that my internet speed has been really bad. I checked my speed around 4 o'clock and it was 3.0 mbps or around there. Now it's at 600 kb/sec, this is pretty annoying because I would like to play DoD or something and I can't because my ping is in the 200-300 range as well. I have Comcast Cable.

Yeesh, I just pinged the Comcast DNS server in MS-DOS and
C:\Documents and Settings\Matt>ping hsd1.pa.comcas.net
Pinging hsd1.pa.comcas.net [64.34.105.163] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 64.34.105.163: bytes=32 time=246ms TTL=44
Reply from 64.34.105.163: bytes=32 time=250ms TTL=44
Reply from 64.34.105.163: bytes=32 time=254ms TTL=44
Reply from 64.34.105.163: bytes=32 time=255ms TTL=44
Ping statistics for 64.34.105.163:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 246ms, Maximum = 255ms, Average = 251ms
This is gross. I hope it's just temporary.

OH! Comcast... Use a different DNS. They're notorious for maintaining their DNSes poorly.
Here's a link with some alternates: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13154925
Try pinging some of those to see what works best for you and then manually configure your DNS... If you need help with the configuring just ask and somebody here will walk you thru it.

I wrote Comcast a dirty email because they charge me 50 bucks a month for really shitty speeds.

They don't care... They put it in the bathroom and use it as toiletpaper with the rest of the angry letters they get.
The only time I got PISSED at them was when thier audit team somehow decided to cut my cable line, because I guess I was "Stealing" cable... Despite being an established customer for phone/internet/cable TV for several years. I was without TV or internet for over a week and was ready to get REALLY pissed at the repair tech who came to fix it, except he was cool about it all, and he was probably more pissed than I was because he said it apperently happens a lot where the audit team cuts the wrong peoples' cable and then he has to deal with irate customers... Anyway, after that, I called them and threats were made, and I managed to get credited for the days it was all down(prettymuch a given), as well as a free month on internet, and cut rates for six months.

Hmm pinging most of them in the 100's in ms. Which one do you use? I live in Pennsylvania so I assume it'll be different.

I live in NJ and mine has been fine.. Maybe one of the nodes you go through is overloaded.. do a tracert and see where its hitting traffic, then send that info to comcast.
I work for Comcast Commercial services, so chill with the comcast bashing =P

Well, if you work for them, you should know better than any of us that they're bastards. ;)

For the first ~2 years after Comcast bought ATT (And ATT had bought the local company about a year prior), it sucked. In the last year though, they've pulled thier shit togethor. 4-5 megabits down makes for a happy Ch33zy.

But why, oh, why give the user 3000-6000 Mbps download capability when you then provide a measly 250 - 350 Kbps up?
I'm just sore because I can't upload into a bitTorrent swarm at greater than 25K/s which limits my download. Under my old cable co I had a measly 1.5Mbps download but I also had a 756Kbps upload. torrent speeds of 150k/s down and 90k/s were not uncommon.
