We all love a good video of someone tearing up the range, so if you know of any good shooting videos, post 'em here.

These videos from silencertests.com are all awesome: http://www.silencertests.com/videos.htm

As well as a few vids of myself and my buddy Miles down in AZ with the CavArms guys.

Yeah I've got some others, just got to get them on my computer. I had these to show some people the differences in recoil of the old rifles compared to the M16 and others that fire the smaller round. The M1 Carbine was just to see how fast I could fire it and still stay on target.

Polymer, on the other hand, is the best practical material to hit gunmaking since homogenized steel became available. Not that I don't love a nice wood stock but I'd rather beat a polymer one up.

I liked the parts where they were firing through the crack of a slightly opened door, and the SUV drive-by with bows and arrows was hilarious.

I wonder if modern composite bows make for decent home defense weapons. I suppose they're potentially not as powerful as modern firearms, but I imagine overpenetration if you live in a densely populated area no longer is an issue, along with the psychological effect having an arrow sticking out of their body would have on an intruder.

Elwood

With broadheads, arrows don't stick out of your body, they pass through. For killing, you want the arrow to pass the whole way through for the biggest possible wound channel/most bleeding.

I've seen deer hit with arrows that just stood there eating and keeled over after a minute or so.

Then again, I've seen deer hit with arrows that ran a good 200 yards at full tilt.

Unless it's a CNS shot an arrow isn't exactly an instant stop, you know?

I shoot a 45# recurve, you might be surprised how powerful they are.

What the hell is it about a pistol grip that California legislators think is so evil?

GrosPoisson
January 23rd, 2008, 04:40 PM
According to the misinformation circulated by certain Brady Bill supporters, it allows for crazed gun owners to shoot from the hip and hit things. Similarly, they like to say that flash hiders make it impossible to be found at night by muzzle flash and/or reduce recoil to negligible levels.

GrosPoisson quit talking out of your ass. Back in the 20's hitler was in his studio apartment and was making some shitty paintings when another young friend of his who happened to be into firearms came in and had something wrapped in a towel. He put it on the bed, and unfolded it. Wrapped up in it, was a weapon that had a pistol grip. The very second, the very second, that hitler wrapped his hands around it, he was shocked in the brain, as if by an electric current, that jews are evil and that got his little ball of shit rolling into a bigger ball of shit and that ball of shit rolled right into the holocaust. California is merely trying to prevent such an attrocity from being perpetrated again. You....don't hate jews and other undesirables, do you? You, of all people, who live in the great golden state, should be thanking sacramento on bended knee. I know i sure as hell do, every morning after I get out of bed. I have a framed picture of Gray Davis above my bed.

I once had a similar event happen to me.

I was shooting at an indoor range one day when a round came back and tapped my shoulder, but it came back at a low-enough velocity that it didn't even leave a mark. When I notified the owner, he found out that the deflector plate downrange had slipped.

Needless to say, I was done shooting for the day.

It's not about any specific scenario. The videos is meant to show that even if it may feel now that there is never going to be another war for us, the situation can quickly change. In the beginning it shows what kind of things to expect when the tension starts to build up and how the conflict could start.

It's not about Russians attacking us, just a general video about what a war would be like. However, we do have saying: "If the enemy is not coming from the east, it means they've got our flank" ;)

I remember seeing a similar idea to this minus the optic and bipod, but it was based on a 1911, and I think it had a replacement barrel that was longer.

If you were to actually use that Glock with all those accessories, would it still eject spent shell casings properly?

Tuulos
February 17th, 2008, 07:16 PM
I haven't had the change to test fire it with the bells and whistles attached, but the stock and scope mount are designed to be used in Glock 17 and same sized Glocks. It can eject the shell casings by pulling the slide back with hand, so I believe it works with shooting too.

If any of you were wondering what we canucks use overseas. ;D Cept we're replacing those C8FTBH (third picture) with C8A3s, that have green grips, ambidextrous fire-selectors, magazine releases and the stupidly long new latches on the charging-handles that gets caught on your gear and bends or breaks.

First picture is a modification done overseas on our C9A1, turning them into "C9A1.5". Paint it green and it's a C9A2, that we are supposed to get in the future...

I purchased my first firearm today.

I enlisted the advice of my uncle whom is the family expert on guns. His advice was to get a .22 until I feel comfortable enough to get other, larger weapons. He took me to his gun store of choice and I decided on a Ruger MKIII 22/45 which is the same as a MKIII but with a 1911 style polymer grip.

cost $229 and also my uncle gave me like fucking 600 rounds of ammo since he dosent really shoot much anymore and has no use for it and I was like "uh well if you insist.." lol

http://www.basticle.net/DSC_0144.jpg

I love it except the magazines that came with it have weak springs and if you load a full 10 rounds in it the first 2 at the top of the magazine do not always get chambered correctly because theres not enough force in the springs. or at least thats how my uncle explained it to me. He said I should call Ruger and see if they have some recall or replacement for the magazines. sucks :/

I purchased my first firearm today.

Well it's about God damn time >:/

It's a nice gun, I've shot marks 2, 3 and 22/45. I didn't really like the 22/45 though because it has too slim grip for my meatpads. They're solid and good weapons and if it fits your hands it's a very good choise. The grip is actually slimmer than the one in 1911, unless they have fixed it.

And your uncle is wise, .22LR is a very good gun to start, because you can focus more easily on fundamentals. And if you want, you can shell out cash to NFA and buy a suppressor.

Me and a few of my friends went out to shoot a few days back. I brought my old RROD Xbox 360 out to shoot at for some fun. I don't have any pictures of us shooting it, but I do have the aftermath.

We shot it with a combination of 9mm Para, .303 British, and 7.62x39mm. So yeah it got shot to hell and back. The little plastic fan shroud blew off after the first hit and it got lost in the woods, the two fans got blown to bits and also, lost in the woods.

That is the heatsink over the main CPU, iirc, it blew off pretty easily.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/em7ea/xbox3606.jpg?t=1249316572

Here's where that heatsink used to be. Notice the CPU on the left? That should not be there.

I've been meaning to do that with an old hard drive I found in my shop. Can't seem to make the time for it, though :(

Matt
August 4th, 2009, 02:32 AM
I actually kept the hard drive, just in case I get another 360. Also absent is the DVD-ROM drive, which a friend needed, and the outer case which had a decent collection of stickers all over it.

I really wanted to hit that large silver heatsink but it got dark fast and my aim was quite poor, not to mention the Federal hunting loads I used kicked like a mule.

We did the same thing with a bunch of friends with a bunch of old (non-functional) computer hw that was laying around (cd-rom drives, dsl modems, motherboards, etc..).

The payback has never felt sweeter.

So R. Lee Ermey does this show on History about guns, called Lock 'N' Load with R. Lee Ermey, but there's currently only one episode on the History Channel website: http://www.history.com/video.do?name=LockNLoad

The episode follows an abbreviated history of rifles (and doesn't explain certain things like development of the cartridge), but it's almost worth watching for Ermey's excessive comical jingoism alone. Lots of slow motion, as well.

Since you're originally from out of state and stationed in CA, it's possible to get a waiver.

But yeah, it's a complex process.

Well I bought it under my CA driver's license, and I'd be too lazy to get a waiver (or convert it, I guess). I could probably get it to be 922r-compliant (the SureFire mags count as three parts)

These next pictures are of a revolver I found while over at my girlfriends grandmothers house. It's a S&W .32-20 revolver circa 1914. I'm in love with it. I found it loaded, sans a round in the hole which lined up with the barrel, next to a nickel plated .32 S&W about the same vintage loaded in the same manner. Even era ammo was next to both guns.
